I'll be here about a month and have my hiking and camping gear with me. Anyone up for a stomp around the woods? Looking for some good 1 and 2 day trails.

I lived just outside of philly for 4 years though I don't live there now. I used to spend a little time in French Creek State Park. They have a fair amount of trails. I mostly mtn. biked there when it was allowed. I have camped there also but I didn't overnight on the trail while hiking. It's a very pretty area with a couple lakes although it's probably fairly heavily used in the summer months. You can download a PDF map of the park here.

Vally Forge is kind of cool but doesn't really have anything more than some easy day hikes and I don't think you can camp.

If you're up for a drive and want to see some amazing countryside head up to Rickett's Glen outside of Wilkes Barre. You'll cross the AT on the way. I've camped at Rickett's Glen and it was nice. We did the hike with all the waterfalls one afternoon. I don't know if they have any longer hikes there.

That's about all I know. I don't know what there is to the East or South of Philly. Maybe something in the Pine Barrens or Cape May in NJ? Just tossing those out.

Very cool, thanks for the info. I have nod had the time yet to get a trip organized with getting the job off the ground, but maybe this weekend I can scout around a bit.
Thanks
