Anyone know where I can get a real Cobra knife? (the one from the movie)m

Shankman,

I have one of the original repros. It is made by "Fury". It is in perfect condition except for paint wear on the handle and the snap on the sheath pouch that holds the spikes(if you remove them) is broken. I am going to be puting it on ebay soon. The reason I am puting it on auction is that I honestly wouldn't know what pricetag to put on it if an individual wanted to buy it. If you want to try and work something out or if you would like me to notify you when I put it on auction, just drop me an email. Take care.

Atlanta Cutlery used to sell this, but I just checked their online catalog and didn't find it, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to contact them just in case.
If it helps, the blade is marked "Fury 33101".

Do that help?

IIRC That is the Harold Corby "Devil's Right Hand" design. If you want a real one you would probably need to order from him. I think they were in the 1K range...

-Sam

Actually Sammy the cobra movie knife was made by Herman Schneider. The Corby "hand" knife is a fighter with interchangable guards. 1 of whitch was real similar to the movie knife. Can anyone post Heman's info?

I guess I don't recall correctly...

I have Harold Corby's Prototype Devils Right hand. It is about $1,800 if anyone wan't it.

Harold did make a few of the Cobras with Herman's permission. I think he made 20.

At one time, Edge Company made two versions of this knife, one with a shorter blade than the other. I don't know if they still make it, but I do remember seeing recently a cheap (probably Pakistani or ChiCom) copy of the same design in some no-name mail order catalog. The movie version definitely had that gold badge on the blade, though, and the Edge Company versions did not.

Edge does not make knives, neither does Fury for that matter. Both companies import them and have knives made to their specs. I beleive the ones you saw from Edge are the Fury versions.

I should have said "offered" rather than "made." However, I don't think the Edge versions were Furies unless they were somehow rebadged. Edge was selling them under their own brand name (and calling them "Cobras," with or without permission). I remember seeing a flyer from them advertising the larger of the two knives, with some as-usual-ridiculous ad copy to the effect that the overwhelming response to the smaller version prompted them to offer the larger version.

The example I saw -- the smaller of the two from Edge -- bore Edge Company's name right on the blade (rather than Fury's). Specifically, one side was etched "EDGECO COBRA", while the other said "440 STAINLESS STEEL" and "MADE IN TAIWAN." The knife also lacked that gold or bronze-colored shield shown on the Fury blade.

There's another important difference, too -- earlier posts in this thread reference the fact that the spikes are removeable (they unscrew) and fit in a pouch in the sheath. The "EDGECO" version, however, came with a cylindrical metal tool used to cover the pointed end of the spikes so they could be quite literally hammered into position in the guard. After insertion they were, one would assume, permanently affixed.

On a related note, The "no name catalog" to which I referred in my earlier post in this thread turns out to be Cook Brothers, who offer a plethora of cheap knives. They're version of the Cobra knife is called the "Street Fighter Deluxe Knife" ("This? I use it for opening mail, officer") and is shown at http://www.cookbrothers.com :

It costs $19.95. Of course, this same company sells the singing mounted "Big Mouth Billy Bass," which is too surreal for mere words to describe.

Mike is exactly right, Harold Corby made 20 custom cobra knives. They come in a presentation box. Original price was around $2,000.

I passed on #18 at the Blade Show and it was only $800.

They are hard to come by.

I have Corby's 1997 catalog in my hand. The Cobra is listed at $1,600 and underneath the picture of it it says.....
" The Cobra is 13" overall and is made of .300 thick 440C Steel. The handle plates are of aircraft aluminum black anodized. I have made 13 Cobras to date, and they have a cobra etched on left side. However, all future Cobras will be made with the Demond Medallion affixed on the blade just as the Cobra that was used in th emovie "Cobra". My thanks to Mr. Herman Schneider for all his help on the Cobra. It would have been very difficult without his help.

I just saw thise movie on Friday nite...what a yaw....That match in Sly's mouth for the whole movie was just too much. I personally think it is an ugly knife. I would much have preferred to have Birdgette Neilson (who was the female lead) myself.

I doubt you'll find one (or be able to sell one) on eBay these days- They've gotten all squirrley about "certain" knives lately. Hope I'm wrong.
