Anyone own an Emerson Police Sark? Should I buy one? Any recommendations?

Hello,
I'm greatly fascinated by hawkbill-bladed knives, and right now I've got my eye on an Emerson P-Sark (the model with the pointed tip, not the rounded tip). Any first-hand opinions on this model? I gather Emerson makes some well-regarded knives, but maybe there's a better hawkbill out there? I'm looking for something with a 3.5" blade, if that helps. Thanks.

The PSARK (as with most Emerson knives) is chisel ground. Easy to maintain, but many (myself for example) don't like chisel ground knives for utility work. If the knife is strictly for self defense or rescue, that's not an issue. Plus the Wave opening method is very fast with a bit of practice.

Take a good long look at the Spyderco Superhawk too.

Yes, the Spyderco Superhawk is definitely on my short list. Between the two, both have blades of about 3.5", both carry tip-up, and both come from top-quality manufacturers. The Spyderco uses better steel and carbon fiber scales, BUT it also costs about $70 more. I need more opinions!

ive got the sark with the round tip. thought it might come in handy as a rescue knife.

never carried it though, ive found my other emersons to be much more useful.

i do really like my combat kerambit, similar but shorter blade shape. kinda useless for utility purposes, though.

MORIMOTOM,
How's the quality of the rescue-version? Tight lock-up? Is the liner-lock well manufactured? How does it feel in your hand? Any complaints? Sorry for all the questions, but I find that the best answers come from actual owners. Thanks.

Hi Silver Bullet, i've been carrying a borrowed P-Sark (pointy tip) for the last few days.

- its sharp, very sharp
- fast deployment
- secure grip on the scales, even with wet hands or gloves
- point is tough, i ventilated a few solvent canisters at work

its a pretty tough knife, i had no issues sharpening it, it carries well in the pocket. It locks up tight.

I have'nt trie to Superhawk yet, it appears to have a more curvier hawk style balde.

The PSARK a good knife, i have the pointy one and its not bad at all.
I did just picked up a superhawk though and i have to say its a really nice bit of kit !!!

Either knife will be a good buy if you want that sort of blade shape

Thanks Bushman5! I don't presently own any Emerson knives, but I think the P-Sark will be my first. One last question: do you have any reservations/comments on the Emerson liner-lock? I would imagine it's manufactured to high levels of quality-control, but I must admit that the Superhawk's compression-lock (also used on Spyderco's excellent Paramilitary model) seems even stronger.

i have never had ANY issues with the liner locks on the Emersons. I own both a Bushman and a Super Commander, and routinely borrow other models from a friend. New the liner locks are tight, but a drop of MILITEC and a few openings and closings take care of that. They lock up solid.

I dont think i have any Spydercos with an Axis lock, so i cant comment.

Ah, my first post ! Although I dont own the P-Sark, I frequently carry a CQC-11 and absolutely love their knives. Really like the wave feature, and the lock up is rock solid.
