Just curious about your thoughts on them? There are a couple in the series that I'm interested in. I rather like the blade treatment, but was wondering how durable it is, as well as the "Alaskan Guide" marking. They're rather expensive for their size, but the 196 Mini Alpha and 113 Ranger Skinner are pretty cool looking.
PS: I know that "size doesn't really matter" - it's more the quality and utility. However, it's hard to justify $100+ for such small beasties.

I have both the AG 110 and 692 Vanguard. I haven't used either much, but have used the 110 more and have lent it out to another person to test and try out...the blade treatment is durable. Much more so than CeraKote and looks better.

the ag 113 beats a cs 113 in price and has the ag coating. just saying...

I have quite a few and like em but at those prices I'd go with a 110 or 192.

I think the price is inline with any other s30v blade out there.
I got a Vanguard enroute.
You cannot get those knives anywhere I'm aware of for less than they are selling for now.......
Price a 113 w/ s30v......
I got one and it's an awesome little knife.

I'd recommend buying it. You can always return it if you don't like it, but I bet you keep it.

And I don't recall the last time I saw 'em on sale.
Just sayin!

I've seen and purchased on sale, but it doesn't happen often. You need to pay attention. They are definitely worth the price. S30V is a great steel and the coating is excellent.

Here are a few

I have the Alaskan Guide 110 and 192 vanguard and I’m so glad I got them. They are excellent knives and probably one of the best cost for what you get knives in upgrade s30v steel and finish, I was drawn by the looks but the s30v blades were the big factor. I’ve used the 110 the most and it’s held up to a lot of heavy use and the 192 has done very well I just haven’t had the opportunities to use it as much. The coating has held up very good and still look almost new. The only scratches I’ve had are at the pivot on the 110 and minimal at that. But the s30v blades hold a good edge for a long time in heavy use.

I've got a couple of AG 110s. One is new in the box, put up just in case....but the other one gets carried a lot. Love the look the coated blade gives the knife with the brass and wood. The coating is fairly tough. One day I noticed the yellow Alaskan Guide stamp was starting to peel so I took a razor blade and finished it off and then shined it up with some buffing compound I had handy. It is also much easier to keep looking nice vs the matte DLC some companies use. Those hold oil and if you wash them off with dish soap or wipe them with alcohol they look faded until you get a little oil back on them. The Buck looks nice all the time. As for the s30v, Buck does an excellent job with it. Holds a good toothy edge and I haven't noticed any chipping.

I have a 110, rubber vanguard, rosewood vanguard on the way,119, 113 ranger skinner,3 more 110s new in the box waiting their turns to get used someday. They are awesome knives ,the coating Bucks uses is very durable and tough,One of the best was a 110ag sambar stag long since discontinued .

I really enjoy/d my AG Buck knives. I’m a fan of S30V, it’s always served me well. As far as actual use my 3 dot sees more time, but the AG series is no slouch and can be counted on for sure :thumbsup:

Here is my Alaskan Guide 110. I really enjoy using it and I think the features and quality of this limited edition is on par with a custom shop 110. The nitride coating pushes it up 2 steps. Then the steel grade and handle enhances the package. I knew I wanted to use mine when I purchased it. Through use I've found that materials I cut tends to slide right off the coating allowing it to cut noticeably smoother. Even better than a mirror polished blade. DM

Well, after mulling it over I ended up ordering an AG 192 Vanguard this morning. The Cabela's site showed out of stock, so I ended up going through Bass Pro Shop instead. They had the same sale price, a 5% military discount and free shipping. Should be delivered by the 27th.
That's my last knife before Christmas - promise. :D

Lol, see how easy that was you still got time to order the 110 or 113 before Chistmas.
 That's for sure - I think I'm going to turn everything off and sequester myself in a cave for the rest of the day.

3hrs later your still on, not working to well huh, LOL. Paypal has that one click pay, makes it even easier.

My thoughts on sharpening this steel, s30v and others with vanadium. They take more time but not a lot. Maybe 5-15 mins. depending on your tools and how dull. A SiC stone can do it or a diamond plate. I noticed the above AG knife (a 2006) had some burrs and I removed them on a 2"X6" Easy Lap diamond plate, fine grit. With a little water and 6-7 mins. working it using a soft touch. I had it back to very sharp. Easily cutting copy paper. With a guided sharpener, maybe 10 mins. counting set up time. So, not a big head ache. DM

The Fed Ex truck followed me home yesterday.
I have been hoping to find this on sale and thanks to folks here that happened.

Thanks guys!:)

I gave away my regular 192 to a hunting buddy while hunting...... He couldn't keep his hands off it so I figured it had a good home.

I was wanting to replace it with the AG
Very cool.
Merry Christmas everyone!
