I'm just beginning to learn about watercolor painting. My girlfriend is an incredible artist and... I've finished some paintings that I'm proud to say aren't total garbage. Here are some of mine but what I'd really love is to see what you've done! It is a lot of fun to see the many and varied talents of fellow forum members whenever I join a new site!

Impressed my first paintings were shit compared to those haha i have paintings on Instagram under the name catseyenovelty... Mostly tattooey stuff and I have done a lot more but I have like no friends so I don't post much haha! Being introverted is a blessing and a curse for artwork.

Anyone Paint?
I painted this engine block. It's good two pack epoxy paint.

. . . Oh . . . that's not what you meant.
I'm kidding. When I was young I studied the heck out of it and understand it technically.
Unfortunately I have no real originality as a fine art painter. I can produce accurate realism, even portraits . . . that isn't art.

My significant other on the other hand is the real deal. She's a pro non representational abstract painter in oil. Impasto (the thick stuff). I dig it ! ! !
Here are two old ones I have posted here before. She is in a couple of galleries and has a one woman show coming up in the Autumn.

I would suggest you make your file sizes smaller before posting them here. That way they load faster. As a result of the large file size of your photos when I was zooming in on your paintings to look at the details the large file size kind of froze my device.

Those paintings are gorgeous!

I'll try and figure out how to resize photos, thanks for the advice!

Seriously, digging that lady's paintings. My gal has a hell of a talent too- she just doesn't believe it.

I haven't painted (artistically) in years. Did a lot of painting, sketching, drawing, etc. when I was in design school though. I'll have to pull out some of my old portfolios and sketchbooks and take some photos.

Unfortunately, as a designer, the computer has been my main paintbrush over the last 25 years. I still lend my artistic talents to a lot of various projects these days, as it's always in the blood, but very little art just for the sake of art these days.

Looking forward to seeing some of your work, Jaseman. I appreciate the difficulty in finding time or energy for art's-sake-art. What medium would you jump on if given the chance?

I took some photos last night of an old sketchbook from art school (like 25 years old). I'll post them up later today when I get a chance.

Given the chance to jump back in? I was always partial to drawing and sketching, and my favorites were always pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, etc...

And I can't really say I don't anymore, it's just different now. Since I'm a designer by trade, I'm still creating artwork constantly, just digitally. But a lot of it still starts as sketching things out on paper to get the basic idea out. I also bring my art/design/creative skills into pretty much everything I do. For example, I painted an old bike for my daughter, but I couldn't just leave it one color, I had to pain scallops on it. Same with the basketball hoop I put on the back of the house - had to paint it! Every tattoo I have, drawn out by me first. Hand drew my own custom knife. I've done a few cigar box display cases for pistols. Heck, the list is endless. So I don't feel like I'm not doing it anymore, but rather just adapted it into my everyday life over the years.

Here's a few quick things that are already floating out there (but I will post some stuff later)

Tattoo on my back, all drawn out by me (except for the bike on the left shoulder, it was an old poster I found that I loved, and inspired the ink)

For a while, I was doing some digital pin-up stuff. I'll leave this as a link to the page, because its NSFW

The post I made here about one of my cigar box display cases (I've since done 5 or 6 of them for friends and family)

So, like I said, though I don't technically draw much anymore, I'm still always creating something. For me, it's actually nice, as I'm creating 'art' all day at work, so at home my creativity comes out in so many other ways that I would never normally expect. My wife laughs at me, because I can't just do something a normal way, I have to look at it from all angles, think about the aesthetic, find unique materials, and add a bit of flair to it.

For what it's worth, I design trade show exhibits for a living now, both structurally and graphically (as well as lobby interiors, signage, kiosks, and all sorts of other stuff). This is just a very small sample of what I do...

I'll keep it at that, as I could post hundreds of work photos, since I've been doing this for the last 20+ years

OK, so here is some actual hand work taken from a 25+ year old sketchbook of mine. All of this is pencil, pen, marker, etc, and done at 8.5" x 11".

I'll look in the attic later to see if I can find some of my old portfolios with larger work. Might be tough, as I lost a lot of stuff about 10 years ago, when my basement flooded.

Sorry for the larger image sizes, took them on my phone and didn't have time to resize....

Quick figure sketch that was done for a larger piece. It's very representative of what some of my style evolved into in my early 20's, listening to a lot of metal and grunge music

That's it for now. If I find some of the larger, better stuff in portfolios, I'll try to take pics and upload them.

I paint. Always have and probably always will. This was my friends car where we had a giant party in the country. The next day the barn and car burned to the ground. This is all that's left of Betty Lou. Water color on 300 lb. cold press rough.

Gotta say, that's really, really nice man!

....Watercolor 300 lb. cold press rough again.

Nice to hear that term! Was interviewing designers at the office a while back (run my department) and no one coming out of art school in the last ten years has any idea what hot-press, cold press, bristle board, or any other substrate was. They all start with a mouse in their hand, never having to do any kind of hand work.

I paint a lot of cars too. Like knives, I find them beautiful. This is the business end of a 57 T-Bird I saw for sale on the side of a road somewhere.
My art professor hated my work and told me to go into welding or something.
She made stupid art out of cut up paper shaped like dresses and thought she was a genius. I found them hideous, lol.

She's hopefully not teaching anymore, and if there's any karma in the world, working as an underpaid WalMark greater... LOL

She's tenured. She is most likely still there.
I went into business and my paintings are just mine now on my walls. I've never even shown them to anyone but my friends and my family. These images are all copyrighted because I put a "C" with a circle around it on them somewhere. I always like to think that when I'm gone these will still be around...who knows.
I really would like to see other people's paintings on here. Please post them. I like this thread.

I don't paint much at all, these two are the only paintings I've done in the last 30 years.
First is my daughter's dog "Callahan" done about 3 years ago... 2x2'

2nd, last May I was challenged by a coworker to get out of my comfort zone and do a painting.
So not only did I get out of my comfort zone, I left my world completely.
I did my first portrait and did it with a palette knife, something I've never used before.

The subject is said coworker (an accomplished artist in his own right) and he loved it.

This is more along the lines of what I do on the job... I build stuff like this box from scratch to spec, for an unboxing video...

But lately most of my art is on leather.... pool cue case I'm holding.

That hand/slavemade box is really cool. Very nice design. So what is it exactly you do for a living
