I just finished the last book "Mockingjay".

Looking for opinions on this series as I'm kinda lost for words.

overall a good series the last third of the last book seamed rushed to me and left a bit to be desired.
the movie based on the first book comes out in march

Agreed. Although I liked the last book the most.

I still can't wrap my head around the "teenagers killing other teenagers for sport" idea. Perhaps I'm too sensitive to it because my 11 yo. son read the series before I did....*groan*.

There's also Battle Royale, that actually came out before hunger games, in Japan, much like hunger games, without the love story/triangle, and also maybe a little more intense.

Interesting...I had never heard of it until now. Looks like a more bloody/violent version of the same idea....LOL

A long series too...14 volumes.

I guess I'll have to look into it...before my kid does. 'doh!

I read the first one and am working on the second. I have found them to be nice, easy, enjoyable reads. Tolstoy? Not quite. But a good read nonetheless. Your thread had me worried that the last book sucked so I am glad to hear you liked it. Read the Game of Thrones series. That is an outstanding series.

+1 for (game of thrones) song of ice and fire series but the 4th and 5th books were not as good as the others.
Can't wait for the new season on HBO

I liked the hunger games series too. I thought the first book was the best myself. If your looking for another good read try " the name of the wind".

If you liked "The Hunger Games" and " A Song of Ice and Fire" books then you should check out "The Passage" by Justin Cronin. "The Passage" is by far THE best book I've read in a very long time! Cronin blew me away with his prose style and original approach to a tired genre'. I promise, once you start reading it you will not want to put it down.

I also highly recommend Steig Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (aka Millennium) trilogy. As well as the original Swedish movies trilogy.

I read The Hunger Games and thought it was weak ending up, too. I am just completing Inheritance, the last book in the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini. I've really enjoyed these. I'll have to try "The Passage".

I am gonna read them soon I think

I finished INheritance within a few days of it coming out. I really think that Paolini could have made it into two more books, and given some better stories for some of the other characters though
