Anyone removed Cerakote?

I decided to strip my ASH-1 with the Cerakote flag. I tried my typical Klean Strip. To my surprise it didn't do anything. Then I decided to try Citristrip since I've seen others have luck using it. Nope. I got annoyed and just decided to hand sand some of it until I could bring it to a friends house for sand blasting. To my surprise, it looks like the scales are tigerhide Micarta. Anyone else remove the coating from one of the Cerakoted blades? How did you do it? Did you find tigerhide underneath too?

I only removed a small part so I could be mistaken but here is a pic of it dry.

And here's a pic of it with a little water on there to bring out the colors.

Great thread. I never have removed cerakote, but I would like to on my CGFBM w/CBT. I can't believe that Busse would have put tigerhide underneath the cerakote, that would be crazy. It's a little hard to tell from the pics, are you sure it's tigerhide? Regardless of what material the scales are, I'm very interested to see how the knife looks after sandblasting!

Interesting. I ghetto satined a shark face TTKZ, but left the scales black. Maybe I should take a peek underneath?

Removed cerakote from a different company without knowing it was cerakote.
Took multiple days and a dozen applications of stripper and epoxy remover and steel wool and scratching with razor blades.
Would I do it again?
You betcha,
Not.

Hey BR7, can you take a shot of the scales from the front on? Just want to see the pattern from the other angle. Thanks!

My Fat Ash1 with the cerakote flag just arrived at Razor-Edge-Knives to have the cerakote sand/bead blasted off, now I'm curious what Josh will find underneath.

Not 100% but pretty close. I've had plenty of knives with black canvas, tan canvas, and couple with tigerhide linen. The three look pretty different from each other.

Riker is curious about the knife too.

Nice, I see some TNG in the background!

Bump because I'm curious how this is coming along. Is there a finished product yet? Anyone else brave enough to sand just a teeeeeeeennnny portion of a cerakoted blade scale?

My ASH has been at Razor-Edge-Knives for almost 2 weeks, I believe sand/bead blasting has a 2-3 week turn around. I might check later this week to see how things are coming along.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how that turns out!

I am curious also. post a picture when you get it back, I have CGFBM (with cerakote) I may send to him to get the same treatment-Thanks

I'd sand the coat off of an inconspicuous portion of the handle to see what I've got before doing anything.
