Anything better than the Ka-bar Becker bk2 for the price?

Hey guys, I'm looking to get an all-purpose fixed blade survival knife for camping, backpacking, bushcraft, etc. I'm leaning towards the bk2 because I like the quality you get for the price, but since you guys know more about knives than I do, is there anything else you would recommend over it that's also within the price range? I realize you guys are pretty keen on Moras, however I would rather get a thicker blade that I could use for heavier tasks without worrying about it breaking. Thanks for your help!

The bk2 is a great choice but I prefer the bk10 just as strong but it's lighter weight, and a little thinner(which I prefer)

I'd choose the BK16 instead. It's plenty durable enough for any camping task, and it's significantly lighter weight than the BK2. And I think the thinner blade makes for better cutting and easier sharpening.

Becker Campanion BK2, 1 lb
Short Drop Point, BK16, 0.4 lbs

If you're car 'camping', the weight won't matter much. But if you're really out there on the trail and trying to make miles every day, the weight savings is huge. In fact, my packpacking knife weighs 0.8 ounces. :D But not being a hunter, I rarely find anything in the outdoors that needs cutting. ;)

I agree with Bob W. I have a BK2 and it's actually too thick and heavy for me. A BK16 is on my wish list.

ESEE 6 all the way. But you could always just purchase an Ontario Machete and have a tool that could baton through the largest of diameter tree stumps. Just saying :-)

It's hard to be the BK-2 for the price if you want the proverbial sharpened prybar. But if you want a knife more than a destructive device, I'd go for the BK-10 instead. I've got both, and the BK-10 is my go-to Becker.

I have a BK2 and I like it, but it is a knife that really excells at nothing at all. Seriously. It is too short to chop (except for small saplings), it's too thick to slice, it's far too thick to whittle or do any meaningful bushcraft. In that respect it is almost laughable due to the thick, short blade. It just kinda sucks at everything. The one thing it has going for it is that it is almost adequate at everything, and is nearly indestructible.

Depending on the task, there are a ton of different knives in the same price range that are far better at everything.
