I found this well-used Boker Tree Brand 493 2 blade
Barlow at the bottom one of those "catch all" boxes
at the local swap meet. (sometimes pays to dig thru stuff ).
I gave $2.

Attempted to clean it up while leaving some well earned
patina. Both blades sat proud (taken care of)... and one
blade wobbly (cured). Now , I'll get busy and see if I can
restore an edge on these carbon steel blades.

Apparently, the prior owner was proud enough to etch his
own name into the bolster. "DOTY". I kind of like this knife...
warts and all.

Not sure of age range... I'll guess 70's.

Pictures don't/don't work for me. (as usual)
All I see it the title, and irrelevant suggestions of similar pictures by others on the right. :(

You may be able to date the era by the tang stamp. :)

Whittled down to a toothpick, some one loved that knife indeed. Ah the era and mindset of one knife for life, what a wonder. Really puts things in perspective.

So, I take it from the responses that the majority
here would have paid the $2 for this well used Barlow?
Good to know. I am glad I picked it up...I enjoy
the resuscitation process. Getting an edge (via
Arkansas whetstone) has proved slow going , but
I will have patience and perseverance.

This knife deserves my best effort.

(p.s. that 492 is awful purty ... my Barlow is blushing ! ).

I'm not sure I would have ...... but that's only because I would have been too intimidated to take on the rehab job that you did! That thing looked like it had been lodged in a shark's digestive tract for a couple years, then barfed up on a beach. You REALLY did a great job salvaging it.

Thanks Mark... too kind. All clean up credit is
given to these Boker's having good DNA. Sharpening
the remaining "toothpick" stiletto has proven elusive
everytime I get a "rollover" correcting it causes
dulling of the blade and starting over. So far it seems
great for stabbing, not so good for slicing ! ;)
The work continues....

I was lucky to find this one at a knife show (I miss knife shows!) in the spring of 2019. Doesn't look like it was ever used, which is causing me to try and find another with some wear already on it that I can add to. Silly, I know. o_O

Really appreciate having my own knife dilemmas expressed by other members.
