Are 2 x 72 good for lawn mower blades?

So I know this is off-topic and it’s my first post, I did do a search and didn’t find this specific question being addressed. my son has a lawn maintenance business and I’ve tried a 6 x 48 Harbor freight belt sander but it’s just too slow even with a 36 grit zirconia belt. We’re using a 4.5” flap sander currentlily and it’s adequate. My question is would a 2 x 72 with say a 1.5 hp motor machine be up to the task of sharpening lawn mower blades? I’ve looked and looked at all the others that are out there and the Oregon Which is a rebranded burr king is a 1.5” x 48” at 8000 surface feet per minute and a 1 hp motor seems to be a high end machine and thus is pricey. On the low budget end Dayton makes a 3/4 hp 2 x 48 But only 4500 sfpm. It’s a lot less money, but I don’t know if it’s adequate to sharpen commercial ztr mower blades?
 
I’ve sharpened mine on my 2hp 2x72. You should have no problem.
 
You don't need high rpm to sharpen a lawnmower blade. I use my 2x72 turned to about 20% speed to sharpen mine. I do this because of the convenience of the process mainly. I usually use a worn out 40 grit to clean the blades up from dents and dings then I sharpen with a worn 220 or 400 grit belt.
 
I sharpen my mower blades on my 2x72. Works like a charm.
 
Ive even used a 1×30 with great results on my mower blade.

Next time, I will use my 2x72.
 
I use my 2 x 72 for sharpening everything, including mower blades. If that's all you want to do, get a 1x30 from harbor freight then get some ceramic belts, like 40-50 grit.
 
Works for me my blades have multiple angles so I use a 10 wheel length wise. I think service shops use bench grinders with a large wheel, I would think 8 would work 10 would be nice. Btw might be cheesy but I check for balance with a screwdriver in the center hole.
 
I do my three blades (and a spare set) for my 60" Kubota deck with my Reeder 2x72 at 45°. First use an 80 grit belt, then a 360 followed by an 800. At 800 the blades will shave arm hair. My buddy was standing at my work bench talking with me and reached down and ran thumb along blade edge. Cut his thumb pretty good with a few cuss words thrown in, too.
 
I have sharpened my blade with 2x72, just don't get carried away. Lawnmower uses a deep pitch and sharpness is not needed due to speed.
