are chrome/timbuk2 bags overpriced?

I can't complain at spending 100 bucks on a bag, but I was looking at the options available; 2 Pockets? I have a need for many interior pockets. Is this wrong of me? It seems that they are too busy being hip, and not busy enough making a bag with enough options. Any thoughts?

I don't think so. I have had one of the smaller timbuk2 bags for several years now, and it never once occurred to me that I might have paid too much. It's held up real good.

depends how you look at it.

if you consider that either will likely last you your entire life, no.

if you compare them to some of the manhatten portage bags, they are overpriced.

if you compare them to some more custom, real messenger bags, such as reload/pacdesign, they are underpriced.

all in all, they all do the same task, and they do it well. each of them has some pros/cons that set them apart from the rest, but none too extravagent.

maybe this will help a bit.

if you are needing lots of pockets, maybe a messenger bag is not for you. they are generally useful for carrying large items (hence the lack of pockets) like boxes or food or something.

ever considered those "bug out bags" made from countycomm.com? lots of pockets there.

I love my old Timbuk2 Pee Wee. Got it in custom colors and canvas before they went more commercial. If you want the best bag for the buck, check out JANDD's line of messenger bags. Uber-simple, but overbuilt and truly bombproof.

I've got the Duluth Trading messenger bag and I love it but the County Comm BOB is what I carry most of the time. Half the size of the Duluth and 3/4 the capacity. :)

The Duluth has a LOT of pockets, inside. The County Comm has pockets on the outside, where I can get at my small gear on a hike.

If you opt for a big, tough, professional messenger bag and miss the pockets, you can get a divider pack like one of the Spec-Ops organizers http://www.specopsbrand.com/assets/product_html/cat_organizers.htm like the Pack Rat or Op-Order Logistics Pouch, or the Maxpedition Neatfreak http://www.maxpedition.com/product/product_org_neatfreak.htm

Check out that Jandd link, too, they have an interesting variety of sizes and types of bags & packs.

Here's a summary of some of the links here and a couple more:

By the way, guys, thanks for the original post and the suggestions. I took them as inspiration to make up a Memo page on my Palm Desktop with all the info. Any additions gratefully accepted.

I have a 5 year old Timbuk 2 bag that, with nearly daily use, is holding up great. If it ever dies I'd probably buy another one.

Pretty much useless. I can't read the little swinging tags and I can't figure out how to click on anything to get it to another page. So they've out-cuted themselves.

No use. I can't read the swinging tags. I can't click on anything to move to another page. I'm sure they think they're cute, but it's not good business to alienate or baffle a potential customer.

On top of which, I am also suffering from some problem with posting! Duplicates all week. Posts disappearing. And last night, the probable explanation -- my ISP kept shutting down and ran sluggishly when I did get it going.

Probably upgrading to worse software again. :(

I finally got to the page with the bags, but the rest of the site is just as annoying. It reminds me of the Erbert & Gerbert's sandwich shops. Every item on the menu has an obnoxious name, like "Bornk" and "Girf", when all I want is a roast beef sandwich...

I have a Chrome midsize bag as my schoolbag, and I freaking LOVE it! I can carry as much as I want, including my laptop, every day, no problem. I also have a larger backpack model as my REALLY-need-to-haul-shit bag, and if anything, it's a bit TOO big.

I never figured it out so I gave up. The music was bugging the cr*p out of me.
