Are crows and magpies legal to hunt anywhere in the US?

I didn't know either was OK to hunt at all.

What would you want to eat either of them for?

Since States do their own game management for the most part, I would check with the game and fish dept. of each State you are interested in. They all differ as to the types of firearms allowed to where you can bag these things, to probably not legal at all in some States.

When I was in Jr. High(OC CA), we used to grab .22's and ride our bikes outside of town aways and hunt crows. There was a .50 cent bounty on each one. That would buy us a lot more ammo. That was California too.

Today that same stunt would get you killed, or at least scared badly by the local swat team.
But back then(1950's to early 60's) the cops were our friends. It changed about 1965 and has gotten worse every year since.

Crows are legal to hunt in NJ from August 8 until March 18 on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

I have to agree with Mike Hull about calling your states Department of Natural Resources and finding out to be safe, I have never heard of either fowl being illegal to...dynamite, air rifle with a scope, what ever weapon of choice works ( you do have to consider the neighbors and laws inside of city limits ) there are even crow decoys you can buy! If you are like us and live way outside the city limits then muffle, muffle, muffle :foot:

I hunt and target shoot, back in the 70's,80's and 90's,up until fairly recently,we'd get permission from Amish landowners to do so on their property.Crows, magpies and groundhogs.Long shooters,we were.:rolleyes:My Amish friends, one, now several years gone, would ask us when we were done, and knowing we'd brought our shotguns,if we'd take care of pigeons that infested their barns, eating grain and carping(sp. :p) everywhere. One of us would throw a rock on the roof of the barn, out they would fly,the barns were lousy with them.
What fun and they would usually eat the offending pigeons.
:thumbup:They said they were quite good,I never tried them. :)

In PA it's 7/1-11/27 and 12/30 to 4/2 Friday through Sunday. 20 years ago it was year round except for Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas due to the "Blue Laws."

in Oregon we have a crow season, is good to keep ya tuned up for other birds or shooting skeet. and it doesn't cost but $6.00 per year for your upland bird vallidation which includes quail, grouse, chuckar, pheasant, dove, banded pigeon, and snipe. I may have missed a couple birds on the list. our water fowl (ducks and geese) require federal stamps which are around $40.00 per year.
