Hey guys my wife and I got out today and stopped at a few yard sales. I found a two bladed Camillus pocket, the tang stamp is marked Camillus New York USA, on the front and number 41 on the back. I paid $10 dollars for it. It is in really good shape, the blades have a few dark spots on them but it didn't look like it has ever been sharpened. How old is it, are they good knives, how much is it worth? BTW how do you add pictures?

Camillus USA should a solid knife. I don't know much about models and dating them. But USA is a good find.
There is a thread on posting pics in forum FAQs. I prefer to use www.flikr.com to gather photos and from there you can paste a link that will display the photo. Make sure to select BBC type link for it to display. You just paste the link into your reply.

Camillus was a well established company and put out a well made, solid knife.

It is impossible to estimate the value of a used knife without seeing pictures of it.

However, as a registered user, you may not ask questions of valuation. Please read the stickie at the top of the forum:

I like Camillus, their steel is good, takes a keen edge, if you put up a picture of the tang stamp it will be easy to date it, the 41 is a senator pen knife 3 1/8" closed, spear and pen blades

Camillus (USA) made folding and fixed blade knives for the military, and knives for Buck, Cold Steel, Case, and others.
They are excellent knives.

Yup! They are solid working knives. I usually have one on me. It's too bad they are gone.

The Tang stamp looks something like this and it had # 41 on the back of the tang and the line is directly below Camillus. I'm sorry I couldn't post a pic I am trying to do everything from my I phone. Hopefully this will help you with putting a date on the knife.

Could be 60s, 70s or later. Really best to post a picture. It's not any earlier than 1960 if the line under Camillus is under all the letters.

To post a picture as a registered user, you must first upload it to a web hosting site such as photobucket. Once uploaded, copy the web address of the picture, paste it into your post, then wrap it in BBS code like this:

(on photobucket this works best if you choose the "direct" link)

In the Camillus area of the forum you will find a thread on how to date a Camillus. The dating will be for a group of years not a specific year.

Are knives made by Camillus any good?

They had such a range of prices, eras, designs, and brand names that it's impossible to make a blanket statement about Camillus quality. For the most part they were pretty good, but I've got some real stinkers of theirs too. :)

Yes, the Camillus 41s are good knives, and $10 is a great price for one in good condition.

I currently own two:

They had a long history and attract many enthusiasts today. The ones made prior to their closure are not perhaps so good? At least judging by a late Yello-Jaket lockback I have, plenty of issues on this one I'm afraid.

#17 post is my knife. I put the pic on Flickr but couldn't figure out how to put the link on here. A big thank you to thawk.
