Red5.jpg Are OLAMIC Knives worth the money? Are they considered Custom made or high end Factory production knives.
Thanks for you honest opinion.

Eye of the beholder...all up to you. They’re not custom made, but they have a lot of 1 off’s which makes them unique.

"Worth" is such a subjective term.

They do have a solid reputation for build quality, and for many, Eugene has been a pleasure to work with.

For myself, all started well with communication regarding a 1-off (custom) build, and then just like that I never heard back from Eugene mid communication. He just went MIA, I ultimately spent my money elsewhere.

If I happen to come across a one-off that I absolutely love, or if I can reopen communication regarding my own build, a Wayfarer is top 3 on my current list of knives to own.

You will never know until you have one in hand. I've read good things about them, right here on BFC. I haven't read anything bad about them yet. That ought to tell you something. BTW, I'm getting my first Hoback based on what's been said here.

Until the latest model (buster?), I thought they were some of the shapeliest knives out there. I am very over frame lock flippers but I find Olamics so pretty I am often tempted to buy one.

Worth it to me? I am on the fence at the moment.

I have read a lot about them, and the owners seem to love them. I'm not fond of the flipper with the hole in it. The flipper tab seems to be larger than necessary, and would limit some types of cutting. Everyone has an opinion, and they sell lots of them, so I'm still thinking about one...sometime...
My favorite would likely be the "hole pattern" as it drops the weight by about 1/2 ounces, and I'm happy when the knife is less than 5 ounces.

In a word. Yes.
The wayfarer and rainmaker are customs. The busker, 247, and swish are mid techs. The customs are manually machined and hand fitted, no cnc work. Mid techs are cnc machined and hand fitted.

Ive owned 4 with one in bound. They are priced more than fair for what you are getting, mid tech or custom.

Eugene is a pleasure to deal with and never went mia on me. Perhaps a delayed response here and there, but keep in mind he is running a buisness. If you look at olamic’s various social media you’ll see how busy the man gets.

I’ll be a loyal customer from now on. If you can dream it Eugene can build it (of course as long as its off one of their models)

My cust was flawless and my subsequent mid techs were as well. So i expect nothing less than that with my in bound knife.

You do get spa treatments on the house once you purchace a knife. If for some odd reason you get sub par craftsmanship Eugen will fix it hassle free no questions asked. They stand behind their work.

Great knives made by great people.

The best flipper ive ever owned was a full size Olamic Wayfarer. Insanely well made. Considering the size, the knife was incredibly light weight. Felt solid in hand and locked out hard. I purchased it out of curiosity, and was blown away in person. If you like how they look, you'll LOVE how they feel and function.

Eugene was great to deal with. I bought a Wayfarer directly through Olamic. He answered all my questions through Instagram. Ok Tyrone day it was scheduled to be delivered I got a direct message from him making sure I got it and was happy with it. Can’t say many others would take the time to do that.

As for worth it’s all in the eye of the individual. To me these are true mid tech knives. Production knives later cutomized in their shop. I’m pretty sure they do all the grinds by hand, but someone else on here might know better what all they do in house.

After handling a variety of high end productions, midtechs, and customs I would say the price for Olamic is more than fair. I see them as a modern alternative to a CRK.

I notice that their website got an upgrade recently and it now explains that parts of their knifes are made in Italy.
I'm assuming with their collaboration with Fox in the past that's who is doing the work?
It was an issue for me in the past due to the photos on their site showing a few grinders in a relatively small space and nothing reflecting the cnc machinery required for the level of quality shown in their knives.
Has anyone been to their shop?
I Google Map searched their location and there doesn't appear to be much there.

I don't fault Eugene at all, and never took it personal, but it was back in January, as I was getting ready to buy my wife her engagement ring. Ireached to Olamic and had a few back and forth emails with Eugene regarding what I wanted in a Wayfarer, then there was no response. I wrote back a couple of times, over the course of a month or 2 mind you, not being pushy or overbearing, but rather simply inquiring where we stood, but still got no response.

I was a bit dismayed, I had the extra money and was really looking forward to my own Wayfarer, but after a couple months of no responses, I spent that money elsewhere (ended up with my G&G Hawk MUDD).

In either case, I still love Olamics work and I do still look forward to owning a Wayfarer one day. Currently I don't have the funds, but when I do I will certainly reach out again and see if we can actually make it happen next time. Until then, I'll just appreciate the beautiful knife porn they provide :)

Olamic knives are definitely worth the money. My Wayfarer 247 exceeded my high expectations and continues to be my favorite knife. I just sent it back to Olamic for some customization and cannot say enough about the excellent service and assistance that I received from Eugene. It will be a tough wait while the work is being done! I think my next purchase will be a Busker and I have no doubt that it will be just as nice as my 247.

I think they’re worth it. I own a Swish, Wayfarer 247 and Busker. Each flips well and are beautifully constructed. Eugene has always been a pleasure to deal with and the turn-around on orders has always been quick.

Heyyy, really sorry about that - I won't make any excuses. Will send you a DM to try and make up for it.

The website will have two addresses, one is Mountain View, CA (office) and the other is Visalia, CA (shop) - we have a 2800sqft industrial space there, but not sure if the google street view car went inside the parking lot to see our sign.
