exactly what the title of the thread is. I really dig minimalistic knives, and I really dig how traditional they look but are they a solid piece of hardware? also, what kind of steel do they use?

yes they are good knives....both these are L6............................FES

I'm thinking more in terms of their folders. there's a lot less you can screw up with a fixed blade as a rule

I had Von Tempsky, meanest chopper I ever owned! I also really digged L6, managed to get insane edge on that and held great edge!

I've looked a bit into svord, and I can say that for the money they seem to be pretty solid knives (based on research, as I don't own one yet). However, I'm more interested in their fixed blades, so thats mostly what I've looked into (and finding reviews of their fixed blades is dang hard FYI, the peasant folder is much more common for some reason).

The main complaint I've heard about their peasant folder is that the grinds can sometimes be uneven. That, and the steel (L6) rusts pretty easy if left unattended. However, both of those are not really big deals and are easily fixed. Just be aware of them going in, and if thats cool with you, then it shouldn't stop you from getting one (especially with how cheap they are).

Good luck man!

Great knives for the money. Just bear in mind they aren't collector's items--they're working knives. :)

Yeah just got one of those peasant knives in the mail last week and I have already ordered 3 more 2 for presents and 1 for me to mess around with putting a new handle and such together. Amazing deal!

Agree with you, A.L. I have 4, the VT Bowie, Ned Kelly Toothpick, Von Tempsky VTF, and a Peasant Knife. I am more than please with each. If a product can be called indestructible then Svord is the maker.

The Svord fixed blades are phenomenol. I own three, the VT Bowie, the NK Toothpick and the VTF. All are thick, strong and sharp. Svord forges knives to last a lifetime. Whatever your choice you will be more than pleased.

I decided to keep my six inch Bowie, I traded my 7 inch hunter awhile ago simply because I wanted a more practical size blade.

Get the Deluxe Sporting & Custom ranges , not the Economy Sporting range.
I had trouble with the Farmers knife; handle too thin & held less of an edge compared to my Sporting Deluxe knives.

I had a peasant but the grind was slightly uneven, not too sharp and I didn’t want to figure how to regrind it, and I couldn’t get used to the tang sticking up in the handle when open. It is a friction folder of course, but I wished the tang could have been flush to the handle, lay down so not to bug my palm.
