Arizona Balisong Laws Question

Assuming you're over 18, you should be fine.

However, even though the state regulation says all knives are ok, there are in fact many police officers (I've talked to a few myself) that are not aware of the state law superseding their city and county laws, and they will be dicks about it if they catch you with one. Just be careful by not showing off your bali and flipping it in public.

That sucks. I always figured balisongs were legal to carry in Arizona. I know here in California you can't carry one, yet the last couple years I kept carrying my one of my user 42's everyday... I haven't been lately, it's too much trouble unfortunately. I'm big into my gun hobby these days, and I don't want to get into a situation where I can't for carrying a balisong. Every sheriff and police officer I've talked to that came into my shop has told me that carrying one here is a felony, even though the law says it's actually a misdeamenor. California is pretty strict on a lot of things pertaining to knives and firearms, unfortunately...

Spinkle, the email I sent you last month about fixed blades applies to balisongs as well.

in arizona it is legal to carry a deadly weapon concealed if u are 18 and not a prohibited possessor(felon or court ordered not to have weapons) and a deadly weapon is one that was designed for lethal use (ka-bar, spear, gun). a balisong is not designed for lethal use. city codes may be different than state laws. az does not have that switchblade/gravity knife law. switchblades are also legal to carry but if u r 18 in az.

Not true. A person under 21 cannot carry a deadly weapon except a pocket knife concealed.
and a deadly weapon is one that was designed for lethal use (ka-bar, spear, gun).
No such distinctions are made, except the phrase "pocket knife"
a balisong is not designed for lethal use.
I know this, you know this, but a cop or a courtroom might not know this. It has long been the consensus that an automatic or balisong knife isn't considered a "pocket knife", at least when it comes to "better safe than sorry".
city codes may be different than state laws.
That is so very, very wrong, but happily so. Last year a landmark bill was passed that no "political division" (county, town, etc) can enact laws regarding knives - only the state can (and they don't).
az does not have that switchblade/gravity knife law. switchblades are also legal to carry but if u r 18 in az.
But don't conceal them until you're 21.

On a side note, for some dumb reason, nunchaku are illegal in Arizona. They're prohibited in the same list as machine guns, suppressors, bombs, grenades, molotov cocktails, and short-barreled rifles. Of course, the guns and suppressors and whatnot are exempt if it's NFA registered. But you still can't own nunchaku. The extended irony is that the vast majority of states don't ban them, yet they all have more restrictive gun and/or knife laws.

Wow, even for pepperspray? Yikes... You can pick that stuff up at a lot of stores here...

We use it for taco seasoning down here (it's a food product, essentially).
