There has been & probably always will be a debate as to what was or is an Arkansas Toothpick. Some historians will say that is was a large dagger style knife while others will say that it is the same as a Bowie knife. I have always been of the opinion that they were double edged like a dagger. In any case, I'm going to call this a toothpick. The blade is of W2, the guard is of a 240 layer Damascus and the handle of stabilized bone w/sterling silver inlet.
I debated on what inlet pattern to use and finally decided on the vine & leaf pattern that you see. This made for a lengthy inlet as there are over 120 pieces of silver wire in the two sides of the handle. Each piece had to be hammered into a taper before being hammered into place. Also, I had to do each leaf in three steps (left, right and center) gluing from the back side after each in order to keep the integrity of the bone scales as I progressed.
