I just bought this of eBay 2 hours ago and wondering if anyone knows anything about it - i noticed it because it reminded me of one of the modern Hawks and i think i got it pretty cheap.

I also thought it looked like a good piece of old steel

I was an Iron worker and ship-fitter most my life and may sound silly but i really like old pieces of steel

what the seller listed it as -- "VINTAGE PERKS FIREMANS PARADE AXE 1955"

it has H.98 stamped on one side and Perks on the other
1955
but is short handle more like a hawk than fire axe
i have searched internet cant come up with anything ? any ideas

thank you -- i am trying to put up a picture but dont know if it will work but i have a link - but i am new here and dont know if posting a link is ok ?

thanks -
Eric

Move it onto a site like photobucket and transfer it over, there is a whole thread on here about it, very in depth and helpful.

Thank you - i will try that -- i might have to wait till it gets here in the mail then take pics myself - all the parade axes are standard just chrome platted this one is steel no fancy stuff and the head is not really shaped like a regular fire axe head

8260a Perks fireman's Hatchet

antique hatchet measures approx. 8 inch from cutting edge to tip of pick, cutting edge is 2 3/4 inch. tool markings are perks 1954. tool has a strapped handle. tool has some rust. The handle is worn and does look like it has been in a fire.

75.00

cool i got one with a good handle for 40 bucks

it does look like the boarding axe i wonder if they just borrowed the design

thanks guys --

British made, quite collectable. nice buy, I want one of those in my collection, any brand would do. maybe sometime, don't care what brand.

Boarding axe, fire hatchet. they got used for lots of jobs.

it came in the mail the other day - swings great; chops wood great (i use a wood stove and some pieces i split to fit better for starting fires)

i took it out in the yard and was messing around to see how it would swing in self defense cases and was comparing it to my short handled "Goose Wing"

i think they make a nice pair

My neighbor called - he saw me holding one in each hand and was worried

That goosewing blade is awesome! Reminds me a bit of a bardiche style blade.

those Bardiche AXES are wild but would cost a small fortune - I wish i had the money to collect some of the old axes. - I got lucky and found the Goose wing on internet search for 100 plus S/H they sell new for 800 this one was ,made in Austria but the stamp is hard to read - finish cut timber framers axe
