ATC : Roger's Rangers Tomahawk

He has a lot of good specs on the site - I've referred to it several times to compare brands or model.

We are the new owners of the Rogers' Rangers line of tomahawks formally from American Tomahawk. They are still designed and made the same way by the same people as before from the same materials. You can check out new models at Bear Mountain Tomahawks

I have a frontiersmen and love it , how does it compare to the ranger knuckleduster, weight and thickness and such?

Wow, you guys have a great page there. So fill me in, you guys used to be with ATC? I know the Ranger model used to be made by ATC or something... I just got into hawks a few months ago and am only familiar with the newer line of ATC hawks. However, the more and more that I look at these Ranger hawks, the more i want one! Yall look like yall have a great business going! I also really like the accessories yall have like to hang your hawk on the wall. What about the sheaths for the VTAC yall have pictured. Can you attach that to a flak vest or to a ruck sack? Or is the one the VTAC comes with better for that method of carry?

Survival Sheath Systems has made tons of sheaths for our hawks so that the military guys can carry them. You can have a belt sheath or do something special like custom shoulder rigs that allow you to carry a hawk on one side and a knife on the other or hawk & handgun, etc. We ship them to Afganistan and Iraq regularly and have several units that we've done custom brands for. I posted pictures below. All the unit has to do is order 5 hawks and we'll make the brand for them at no charge and then after that they only have to buy them one at a time or however many they need. The WarDawgs brand is on the Minuteman tomahawk since they're a National Guard Unit stationed in Baghdad. They order one for every guy in their unit who passes a certain set of standards. The hawk is their reward.

We also have some new models coming out including the Special Forces edition that has a fully sharpened beard. We had a prototype that was supposed to go to the 19th SF Group here in Washington but one of the guys requested it to be buried with Guy "Bear" Barattieri because they wanted him to meet Odin armed so we did it up special and sent it up to Seattle for the services. We hope he's carrying it proudly in Valhalla.

The leather sheath pictured for the VTAC is for those who asked for something more traditional. We've been told it's easier to unsheath than using the regular nylon sheath that comes with it and for the guys who carry it in their pack, not on their web gear. Survival Sheath also makes awesome rigs for the VTAC, too. He can customize the rigs to carry pretty much any combination you come up with. Call Rob for details and specs for him to work with. And you can call us with any questions or to place an order. We just got a run of hawks done but probably 90% are spoken for and we have some more due to finish up in about 10 days.

Northstar, absolutely amazing what yall are doing for our military. I am in Army ROTC and I understand that doing things for troops means the world to those already serving. So did your company branch off from ATC? I like your style of hawks and the sheaths are nice as well. I am familiar with the survival sheath systems. Those guys seem to have sheathing hawks and blades in general down to a "T". God bless and thanks for all you do for those in the military.

yea bear mountains great, you won't be disappointed if you get one reconseed, good product and good people. sure they had a few issues and where backed up recently but in my opinion the quality of the hawk (as well as sheaths) and service is well worth it, hell my brother smashed up a bunch of real hard stuff in the basement with the spike of my frontiersmen and dulled out the spike and their fixing it no problem. plus generally if something goes wrong and your order is delayed they'll take care of you. if I'm not mistaken they bought the hand forged line from ATC and the smiths are still the same.

Brody is correct. I worked for ATC for many years and there was some discussion of discontinuing the hand-forged line to focus more on the tactical hawks for the military & law enforcement. I had an attachment to the hand-forged products and Paul had done some designs for the hand-forged line so I bought it from ATC in April, 2005. I stayed on until September, 2005 and then we separated the companies completely.

Everything is the same from when ATC owned it with the exception of some newer designs and more products to support the hawks like the sharpeners, hangers and oils, etc. Plus the branding was something we went back to. Back in the day they were hand-branded on the handles. Later they went to engraving. A poll on BladeForums took us back to branding because it's more traditional in the spirit of the hawks. Now we only engrave when people ask for something special, like guys graduating from units or retiring, etc. Then we can engrave them with names, dates of service, unit information, etc.

We have a Boy Scout Troop that's considering the Rainier Scouts for their troop and we're going to make a special branding iron for them.

Nice Northstar, as I stated above, you seem to have a very nice line of quality hawks and I will probably be investing in one in the future at some point.

Very nice line. Though, how was it a line of American Tomahawks....And now you own them? Why would someone sell just one single line of a product?? Why dont ATC still make em? Im lost.
I like those hawks a lot. Great working pieces. Ever see one of these?

This went to iraq with me. They are great tools. When youre out in the $hit, all you need is a good knife, and a hawk. you can chop, cut, hammer and fight with a hawk. no other tool needed.

I have no dog in this fight but from what I have read / heard NS can't discuss details because of legal proceedings.

Basically Buddiiee - Supply & demand. The old style of product (Wooden handle vs synthetic/metal) does not conform to the new market place. People are not purchasing the product. The "traditional" type of hawk does not sell the numbers that the new space age type of hawks sell. Therefore ATC dropped the line.

Fortunately, NS was able to save / purchase the same line and maintain the quality of product for people like us who appreciate fine crafted tools.

I want to thank you for your service. I am a neighbour from the north but I do appreciate your personal sacrifice and quality crafted tools.

Blutck

ahh ok. so they werent selling, so someone stepped up and offered to buy? or did atc offer to sell? Either way, I am glad someone still makes em. Im not sure how we got by for hundreds of years, with wooden handled, steel headed hawks and now all of a sudden, out of NOwhere, theyre not working anymore... I missed something lol. Both my wooden handled hawks worked fine in south baghdad for an entire year straight lol. Ahh well.
At any rate, thank you. It was a pleasure to serve. and thanks for keeping the fine craftsmanship up too. My team absolutely loved theirs.

I purchased the line because I had a love for the hand-forged hawks. ATC was concentrating on the tactical tomahawks so I offered to take on the Rogers' Rangers line and have since added some other models with some new models in the works.
