Authentic Buckmaster 184?

I'm far from an expert but will say I think yours is authentic. Why, because the equipment, time, trouble and expertise it would take to replicate the machining on the handle and forged patent number/ Buckmaster grove on the blade to make it clean and sharp would be cost prohibitive even for off shore.
Here's mine...

I had one years ago and I do not remember it having identifier other than stamping of Buck 184 above the guard. They could have changed after I had mine.

From... https://buck-184.com/
"Effective November 1986, all Buckmasters were identified with U.S. Pat. #4622707. This identification was done by means of an adhesive sticker placed on the box. In Early 1987, this same designation was forged into the relief groove in the blade. Buckmasters from this point on did not have a date code."

It definitely appears to be legit. I own one of the knockoffs and have seen many others, but none that I'm aware of ever bothered to put in the effort to actually pass themselves off as genuine.

There are no shortage of clones, but I've yet to see an actual counterfeit, unless you count individual sellers on eBay selling Rothco Ramsters as Buckmasters by accident or design, but those are easy to spot.

I’m not an expert in 184’s but I do own one from the early 90’s (I bought it new back then), but I’ve never seen one with that dark handle. Mine is the same color as the blade, all silver. If it weren’t such a PITA to post pictures here I’d throw one up of mine. It’s been used on plenty of backcountry adventures. I even carried it to South America and back!

Edit: I figured out how to post an image!

The 184 was available with both satin finish (early ones being sand blasted, the later ones media blasted) and Black oxide finish.
Note the pommel caps on both of these are the later "Thin" versions (like pjsjr's above) as opposed to the one in the OP which has the "thick" pommel.
Hope this helps.
