can someone help me locate a small axe head that can be fixed onto a walking cane? These canes were used by forresters in Europe.

I know in poland these are known as Ciupaga, and i was wondering where i could find a functional one, instead of a brass tourist one?

Windless Steelcrafts had one at one time..used a socketed head similar to CS's "BadAxe". Im not sure if they still do. Havent seen one in a longlong time. best of luck.

It was also called a Fokos or some such. There was a custom maker on here who made a couple a while back. You could also get in touch with Vector001, another maker here on the forums, and see what he could work up for ya.

Mongo,

I think those are all brass.(not b/c of the tourist) . Try to find a pattern what you like and I'm sure some of the maker around here can make you one.

I think CRR and TLM are right, it's called a fokos. I remember Joe Szilaski made one a while back, it was a beauty.

Here is one that I did a while back.

Very nice rocketmann!
The special about the original fokos is the head can slide of the shaft . Old timers use to carry the head in the pocket (until needed ).

Mark Williams made one a couple years ago, too, but unfortunately he's since been medically retired from bladesmithing. Sorry I can't be more help.

T.O.P.S. knives offer a hawk walking stick model. They normally have items in stock and ready to ship. I think the handle is three foot or so.

The top one is mine other from the same blacksmith.

the only flaw i can see in that design is that it must be a real pain in the arse to change a broken handle. but i also dont see the handle being broken very often so that problem probably isnt too much of one

Regarding the brass head, I found the info below:

length: 14"
head: 2 3/4"
blade edge: 1 1/8"
weight: 5.8 oz

A small hand sized Hungarian "fokos" axe from sometime between the 1920's and 1935. The fokos was a tradition weapon in the Poland/Hungary area, and the name means "cane with a head suitable for fighting". Steel headed fokos were banned in the 1920's, and brass ones were produced in response. The end of the fokos era was the eve of WWII. This mini-fokos has an unsharpened brass head and some minor damage to the butt end.
