B8 vs. TG (& other 7-8" blades)

Even though I already have a B8LE and a BG Hell Razor, I keep debating on whether to pick up a a Team Gemini (BG or LB).

I know TG's are by far the most popular Busse in this size, but a few things hold me back:

-I tend to favor either larger or smaller blades for most stuff.

-The B8 seems hard to beat when I do want to carry a compact choppy blade. Relatively light, nice forward weight, comfy Res-c. (Not to mention the LE also has a satin blade and convexed edge.)

-The BGHR may not be super similar to a TG, but so far mine has seen very little use with the B8LE available, even though the overall design is awesome and it feels great in hand. I worry about picking up a TGBG or LB just to have it sit around as well.

Obviously, the best answer is to just pick one up and see for myself. I know it wouldn't be hard to unload either, but I'm still not sure if I should bother. Maybe I should just wait to see if the TGLB LE happens and/or save my nickels to see what the Bossman is cooking up for Op2Wks 2.0...

For the sake of discussion, what do you all think? What are you favorite blades in the ~7-8" range? Why?

For the public at large, I'd agree that TG's are most popular because of zombie shows...

But amongst Busse users, I don't think TG can hold a light to a B8.

B8 is lighter for carry, it comes satin in LE from factory-- the easiest to maintain, best slicing, easiest to refinish blade treatment-- HUGE pluses!

Thinner behind the edge and allows for more hand grip versatility. The full height convex with that zero edge is a breeze to touch up in INFI-- no reason for your knife to ever be dull, frankly.

No offense Nate, but that's a no-brainer in a toss up b/w B8 & TG for using. Really no competition, IMHO, YMMV, BYOB and a few other acronyms thrown in for good measure! ;):p

But if your emphasis is on collectibility and pure American classic beauty, well, that's where the TG excels. OTOH, I find a well thought out blade that's also high in utility beautiful also!

BEAUTIFUL!

A Ratweiler or FSH are also very strong contenders! Both feel incredible in hand.

I must admit , although much bigger....since I picked up a NMFSH....the TG has seen much less use.

Hard to beat the grEIGHT bEIGHT as an all around blade! TG has less blade width and blood groove which may prevail in the zombie apocalypse situation for penetrating zombie heads and quickly pulling out vs the wider B8 blade which may hold up blade removal. They are both plenty light enough for belt carry. Would not hesitate to say "GET BOTH," as this seems to be the Busse mantra. Also, zombieassassin in 100% CORRECT in that the NMFSH is a bad bad blade. Its weight and size, IMO, put it out of the same class as the TGLB and B8, but it may be the best compact chopper that can probably do pretty much any small task. Belt carry, however, is certainly a little more cumbersome, but not unruly. GET THEM ALL!!!

None taken at all and thx for the pics! You actually summed up my thinking pretty well. I wanted to ask though in case I was missing something/because I haven't had the pleasure of handling anything that I don't already own.

Really a lot of options out there in this general size:

B8
TG
Hell Razor
ASH/BG FSH/Trash 1
SFNO
SAR8
Rat/Chopweiler
MOFO
Battle Shark
Regulator
Bunker Buster

...and maybe more that I'm missing. Would be sweet to get them all, but probably shouldn't since I have all these children to feed lol. :p

The NMFSH has been getting a lot of love here lately and I've been close to getting one in the past, but I have the DT and I'm waiting on a BME2, which I believe are both similar in blade and overall length, so it's probably not in the cards for me anytime soon.

Haha, you make a compelling argument regarding the zombie brain stabbing. Certainly the TGs would excel. I think the SAR-8 might be a close second as a "gentleman's" brain stabber.

I suspect I'll hold off for now, but will probably cave quickly if the shop does another run of TGLBs or an LE just because they're so iconic.

Have both. Prefer the B8. By the slightest edge, for handling. The TG for looks. SARsquatch beats them both. But their getting tough to locate on BF exchange. Good luck in your choice. Will sound that echo. Buy both at good user prices, sell your second choice. If you can bear to do so. I've kept all my Bussekin.

FFG Regulator, has to be the most comfortable knife of this size that I have handled. I would love to see one of these in Infi. It's pretty nimble for a knife of its size & has plenty of belly.

NMSFNO for me. It was just more user friendly than the TG.
If weight is a consideration the DSSF is tough to beat and it a good stabber

Cut it out's pic reminded me of my one knock on the B8. The guard on the res-c handle makes the transition to the choil wider.

Not a deal breaker at all and it's still functional for me, but not quite as nice to choke up on as some other blades I have. Curious if anyone has tried to mod that transition by cutting/sanding away the res-c, but I haven't been willing to experiment on mine.

Function B8 wins
Form TG wins
Price/performance B8 wins
Weight/performance B8 wins
Recognition/fame TG wins

Like most of these purchases it comes down to if you want it, then get it, as none of them will let you down and the next guy in the same situation will gladly take it off your hands. :)

I was in love with the b8 until I tried using the choil. Too darned fat. Hurt my fingers.

B8 if you want to do anything in the woods.

TG if you want to.......fondle while watching a certain TV show?
