Back harness for 9?

In a month I'm headed to Northern Ontario for a week of camping/fishing. Since we often stop on islands during the day for shore lunch and exploring I'm thinking I'll be taking a 9 and a 15 or 16 (most likely 15 since I'll have the 9) and my wifey will most likely have an 11. I've been thinking I'd like to carry the 9 all the time but with fishing I don't want it to be in the way. I'll be sitting some when driving the boat but standing a lot while fishing. Does anybody have any experience with or have suggestions for a back harness for the 9 so I can carry it down the middle of my back, upside down? Thanks to 710 I have a kydex sheath for it. I know I can just rig up something with paracord, just wondering if there is anything else out there that might be more comfortable for a 10-12 hr fishing day. I've done some searching, just not having great success at finding something.

What about a chest rig that has molle on the back too? Pick up a couple molle-loks or a tek-lok and loop it thru the molle.

Tie a loop of paracord (you'll have to play around with it to get the size right) cross the loop over itself to make a figure eight and slide it through the belt loop/hanger/whatever on the sheath. Run an arm through each loop and you've got it. I've carried a machete like that plenty of times.

Edit: Sloppy reading on my part. You're looking for other than a paracord solution. My bad. (But it works fine :D)

You shouldn't even feel you're wearing it..

thanks for suggestions so far. I was really hoping someone could point me toward a readymade harness though.

Semper: chest rig is an option but bigger than I was thinking. Also - taco.
Trade: thanks for the suggestion. If I don't find anything I'll experiment as you've suggested.
A_UK: guess I'm not feelin' it. That seems to get me a shoulder harness. Am I misunderstanding?

Use a Baldric. I've used one for years canoeing and camping and it works great. Of course, YMMV.

My tackle box is a backpack style. It frees up my hands for carrying poles and such. I'm thinking I need to get a pack with some attachment points. Keeps it handy but doesn't get in the way as much. Plus I usually carry a firearm on my strong side and this would free up that belt space. Those packs seem rather pricey though. Has any one added Molle to an existing pack? I figure I could find some surplus packs cheaper and sew it on.

Rockclmb (?) Did a shoulder strap mounted 9 with a little 'biner and some bungee, I think. There's a pic of it in a thread of alternate carry ideas (on this SF) an it's mounted to a regular hiking pack. Sounds like it might be just the ticket for you. If you can't find it, lemme know; I'm pretty sure the thread is bookmarked on my laptop.

Maybe I'm having a hard time finding a back carry system as I described because it doesn't make as much sense as I originally thought. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

HotRodColt: looks like I can definitely find something from Survival Sheath Systems that'll do what I want. Thanks for the tip.
Doc-Canada: thanks, I've seen you're posts and videos and appreciate your experience and suggestion.
Warrior: whether I end up with Survival Sheath Systems or repeating what you've suggested, it seems that some form of chest carry makes more sense. Thanks.

Nick made one waaaay back when, but I don't know what happened to that thread. Dubz wore a John Deere D155 lawn tractor on his back for awhile, but thats not for everyone...

Nixkustoms is his name these days.

GSOM that should work great for me. Thanks for posting the picture. I understood what you wrote but pictures always make it a little clearer. Hopefully mbay finds what he is looking for. Sorry if I hijacked your thread a little.

As DOC-CANADA has suggested, a baldric setup might be much more useful for your needs, and can easily be accomplished with any type of strap (shoulder or otherwise) attached to whatever type of sheath you prefer. Personally I outfitted my BK9 with the ability to have a baldric strap and wore it very comfortably around Bladeshow for quite some time without any issues. Depending on the type of sheath you go with it can be as easy as just ordering a shoulder strap. Kydex would be very easily modified to a baldric setup if one were so inclined.
