Hey folks. In case you didn't see my earlier thread about this, I got to go to my first knife show this weekend. It was better than I imagined. I learned a ton of stuff, met a ton of makers/purveyors/collectors, and got some goodies to take home with me. Although the forum is a GREAT place to talk about knives and trade opinions, it just isn't the same as a knife show. In my ignorance, I expected it to be a glorified gun show. It was far from that. Not only were the majority of prices fair, but some stuff was almost a steal at the prices they were charging. There is also a stronger family atmosphere at the show. Since everyone is pretty much in the business of knives, we all had a more common bond and seemed to get along well much better with strangers. EVERYONE there was willing to talk about their processes and they were more than happy to share their methods to a newbie maker. It was fantastic!

Anyway, I procrastinated taking pictures until Sunday and spent the whole day trying to play catch up. Unfortunetely, because of my slowness, and due to the fact that some guys had sold out by then, I was only able to photograph a small majority of the makers at the show. I was pretty busy meeting and greeting most of the weekend as well and I also spent a fair amount of time at Ken Coat's table learning how to run a knife show table. (best part of the show)

To all the makers and dealers I'd like to say thank you for the great time. If you don't see pictures of yourself/your knives it was because I either missed you or simply ran out of time. I also have horrible photography skills so some of the pictures probably don't even come close to doing your knives justice....I apologize for that. So without further ado.......

I too had a great time at the show, (though you would never know it by my pic) I just wanted to comment on Phillip Booths car knives. They were autos and when at hi speed they locked up they set off a #11 percussion cap, simultaneous bang! and lock up.
Ken

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I'll definitely plan ahead to make it next year. I already have permission from my lady to go ;)

I found more pics here.

The top one in that pic is similar to the one I got from Ron on Saturday, except it was S60V instead of ATS-34. :D

It was a great show. Lots of great makers and great pieces on display and for sale. I fell in love with Jerry Rados' automatic folder. Just stunning work. I hope he is able to get his shop up and running soon.

Garrett,

Thanks for taking the time to post pictures! It was nice meeting you after all the good things Ken Coats has said about you.

I had a really nice time also(again, you could not tell by the picture)

I was able to handle some slipjoints from the finest makers in the country. I learned a lot and came away with a new found passion to make a finer slipjoint.

Ken

Yeah, that picture of us kind of resembles those old west pictures where you had to stay still so long that smiling wasn't an option. Three outlaws and such.

It was good to meet you to finally Ken. Like I said, it always seems like we just missed each other so to finally meet you was a pleasure.

Great pic's Garrett. Glad I got to meet up and talk with you there.Good idea's you had with your grinder too.Might use a couple of them on mine when I get that far.
