Hey folks. In case you didn't see my earlier thread about this, I got to go to my first knife show this weekend. It was better than I imagined. I learned a ton of stuff, met a ton of makers/purveyors/collectors, and got some goodies to take home with me. Although the forum is a GREAT place to talk about knives and trade opinions, it just isn't the same as a knife show. In my ignorance, I expected it to be a glorified gun show. It was far from that. Not only were the majority of prices fair, but some stuff was almost a steal at the prices they were charging. There is also a stronger family atmosphere at the show. Since everyone is pretty much in the business of knives, we all had a more common bond and seemed to get along well much better with strangers. EVERYONE there was willing to talk about their processes and they were more than happy to share their methods to a newbie maker. It was fantastic!
Anyway, I procrastinated taking pictures until Sunday and spent the whole day trying to play catch up. Unfortunetely, because of my slowness, and due to the fact that some guys had sold out by then, I was only able to photograph a small majority of the makers at the show. I was pretty busy meeting and greeting most of the weekend as well and I also spent a fair amount of time at Ken Coat's table learning how to run a knife show table. (best part of the show)
To all the makers and dealers I'd like to say thank you for the great time. If you don't see pictures of yourself/your knives it was because I either missed you or simply ran out of time. I also have horrible photography skills so some of the pictures probably don't even come close to doing your knives justice....I apologize for that. So without further ado.......
The Central WI Boys....clockwise from bottom left
Ken Coats, Garrett Schmidt(what a handsome fella), Ken Erickson
Ken's table later in the weekend minus some sold knives
Robert Rossdeutscher....great traditional style blades
One of Robert's knives...I think this one was copper if I can remember right...for cutting open gun powder bags without the risk of a spark
Mike Malosh and one of his awesome Scagel influenced knives....unreal convex grinds
Fred Bruner, Jr.......great bladesmith
Jeff Haines...tired from a long weekend
