I've been using something to practive with, and i was just wondering if anybody has thought of this before.
When I first started practicing my aerials I just use to put tape on the blade, but I always hated taking it anywhere cause it looked like crap when i pulled it out.
So after i thought about it i came up with a good idea.Instead of taping the blade up for protectiom against accidental cuts I thought why not just protect my hands.
So I looked around my house and I found a baseball glove.I put it on and did a few twirls to see if I could still have the same control as without it,it worked like a charm.
As a matter of fact it even helps a little because it's made of a leather/suade so it grips the handles and prevents slippage.
I don't use it anymore because I feel confident enough in my skills that I don't need it,but whenever i'm trying out a new move or flip I throw it on.
BTW I cut the last two fingers off,the pinky and ring fingers,so I can still have a few fingers on the bali in case I do some moves with those last two fingers.
This part may sound a little silly but I wonder why nobody has come out with a bali glove,or maybe they have and i've never seen it.I mean anybody who practices with a bali is gonna get cut at one time or another,i'm surprised that one of the companies who manufacture bali's hasn't come up with the idea to put out a pratice glove. They used to make practice bali's,why not just make a bali glove, that way your actually practicing with the knife that you carry/use.Plus i'm sure it's alot cheaper then having to buy a practice knife.
OK i'm rambling now,but I still think it's a cool idea,anybody else think so?....peace

It may sound like a funny response, but it remiinds me of my grandfather explaining why cars had rubber tires...

"If you can't put the smooth in the road, you need to put the smooth in the wheel."

So If you can't put the safe in the blade... put the safe in the fingers?

Sounds pretty keen to me.

Hum...

"Can we cover the earth with leather?"
"No."
"How may we protect our feet?"
"...we cover our feet with leather."

Interesting, would also add to the challenge of drills.

I've used no such practice tools, but recently I made one for 17 month old daughter. Not sure about its effectivity, but quite sure about legality no matter where you go, safety, and ecology (by not ruining el-cheapo balisongs).

I can't use gloves of any kind while manipulating balisongs.I've tried, but I need to be able to "feel" the metal.I need to be able to control the twisting & sliding of the handles at every little point, which I can't do with gloves.
The same goes for me using swords...I can't use gloves, unless I'm using a rapier & poignard.

Heh when I was in high school, everyone laughed at me because I favor rapiers...till I showed them how dangerous dexterity and intelegence are.. HA! Mortal Fools!!!

>>So I looked around my house and I found a baseball glove.

They do make gloves that will offer some degree of protection against a sharp knife. I for one would rather just dull the blade, because I do not like to wear gloves. I usually do not wear gloves unless I am working with harsh chemicals that could be absorbed though the skin.

I remember a long time ago, the very first day I did a honest days work. I got about 5 blisters on my hands that were unbelieveable how big and deep they were. My hands were really raw. But when the skin finally grew back again, it was a lot tuffer and no where near as easy to blister.

It's the same thing with breaking boards. Somehow if you work your way up to it, your bone gets harder and it's easier to break boards with the side of your hand.

I would think that leather gloves, would offer some degree of protection. It would be like having another layer of skin. But not 100% protection. OJ Simpson had expensive leather gloves on, but he still managed to cut himself.

Personally, I've never been able to manipulate a bali while wearing a catcher's mitt.

I'm sure blade_420 was just joking, but for the people who don't know what i'm talking about I was talking about a a batter's glove. It's thin enough that it doesn't get in the way while manipulating a bali.As i said before,I don't use it all the time, only when i'm trying out a new move that I may cut myself on.

No, it's just a butcher's glove.
Chainmail, especially this small, is virtually bladeproof. Helps keep all your digits in place.

Yeah, but they're not that great for gripping things

And they are basically the same as the shark glove..both are chainmail with welded rings. There is another version which isn't exactly chainmail, but is metal...I can't remember what the style is called though.
