Well I have researched all day and have been talking to Ball a little bit and have decided to go with either a Ball Trainman (Quartz) or a Luminox Steel/Carbon Fiber Navy SEAL Dive watch. They are basicly identical in style and features except that Ball uses 3H gas for there hands and hour markings and Luminox uses Tritium Viles. The cheapest I found a Luminox Steel/Carbon Fiber Navy SEAL Dive watch for $199.99. And the only place I found the Ball Trainman for sale was from there website for $450.00. Now I have heard some bad things about Luminox watches but not anything bad OR good about the Ball watches so would I be better off to pay the extra $250 and POSSIBLEY get a LOT better quality watch? Now again I don't know a whole lot about watches so plese just bear with me. Thanks again.

Ryan, 3H is Tritium. This is what is used in Traser(Luminox) watches. If you get the Ball watch, you would basically be getting the same watch minus the SEAL logo and considerably overpriced. You can check out www.traser.com and see the same watch under it's British alias: Traser.

I have worn a Liminox watch daily for about 5 years now and been completely satisfied with it. So much so in fact that I have given two of them as gifts.

I have not heard anything about Ball, but I would not hesitate to buy another Luminox. I am debating about the big Titanium dive watch now (can't think of the model number off the top of my head).

Have you asked at www.broadarrow.net ? That's where the military watch buffs hang out.

I haven't seen many posts about Ball -- not sure I've seen any, other than questions. Apparently they are not well known ... there must be some reason for that....

Mhhhh Good point Cougar. Well then I guess that settles it. Sometime in the near future I will be getting a Luminox Steel/Carbon Fiber Navy SEAL Dive Watch! THANK YOU ALL so much for all your help! Thanks Again.

Ryan, I did a search on broadarrow.net and found this bit of info:

The original Ball Watch Company was out of Cleveland OH from 1879-1969. Webb C. Ball was a leader in developing standards for American railroad timepieces and the timepeice inspection system. Ball Watch Company provided RR approved timepeices to most of the U.S. railroads and no longer exists. A Hong Kong company purchased the rights to the Ball name and is just getting into the U.S market.

IMO, don't pay $450.00 for the Ball name when you can get the same watch with the Luminox logo for a reasonable price.

The only thing more embarassing than the fact that I like to make believe I'm a Navy SEAL, is letting everybody know that I like to make believe I'm a Navy SEAL -- which is exactly what the Luminox watch does, with the Navy SEALs face plate. I like those converted watches with the non-descript face-plates. Looks much nicer than Luminox's busy, cheesey face-plate, IMO.

I agree with you about the Navy Seal Logo thing but I can't find a customized one with a metal braclet. Any ideas as to where I could look for one? Thanks.

Ryan

The people who market the "Luminox" brand merely cash in by using the SEAL acronym on the watches. Still, the Luminox logo and the Navy Seal mark on the watch is purely cosmetic and really shouldn't matter (especially if you're not a real SEAL.)

LMAO.....:D

Hi Ryan,

There's no reason so pay $450 for basically the same watch but as I mentioned to you in a earlier email, unless you buy a custom watch
like: http://www.countycomm.com/marathondiver.htm then you would be hard pressed to find Traser illumination with an auto movement.

It does seem like you like quartz movements. http://www.traser.com might be good for you to check out but you should check the exchange rate before you leap into a purchase.

So Tracer and Luminox are one and the same company right? Therefore there watches would be manufactured to the same quality and standard then. Also does the Tracer website use the Ukrainian Hyrvnia currency? Thanks.

Ryan

Ryan, Traser UK LTD markets them under their own name to the British market, but they are essentially the same watches. Traser's website lists the prices in British pounds, but if you live in the States it would make more sense to go with the Luminox unless you want to pay extra. The watch you want sells for £199.99 which would be about $316.00 US dollars not to mention shipping charges. You can email them at info@traser-uk.com to inquire .

To convert international currency, check out www.x-rates.com

DOH!!! Theres no way i'm willing to pay that much extra for there watches! Even though I do like the looks of them alot better. Oh well it looks like if I don't find a customized on at a good price i'll just have to deal with the Navy SEAL logo.

I did have one more question. On the Luminox Steel dive watches is the (I think it's called the bezel, the thing with the numbers 5-55 on it) adjustable because according to this picture it looks crooked.? Thanks.
