This comes up quite a bit when searching legal terms about knives. What the hell is a Ballistic Knive? I've never come across a knife that shot blades out at people. Are there automatic ballistic knives? Has anyone had a knife blade SHOT out at them? I guess I'm asking if this is a genuine concern or a flight of fancy?

Yes there are "ballistic knives," it is exacty what you think it is; a thing that will shoot a blade from it's handle thingie. I believe a forum member here made one. It was fairly large from what I remember.

They actually do exist, I believe they were first made in Russia. I've never seen one anywhere though. I'd like more information myself, like images.

I'm not sure about authenticity of this knife being the Russian Special Forces Knife... but many people say so. They also say this is an obsolete model which was replaced with knife that has a device in the handle that can shoot one or two (I don't remember for sure) quite cartridges. The latter do exist and are used by the Special Forces units.

Russian Spetsnaz may have used this knife. The spring needed the help of ones hip to reload the blade. The knife was very unique, it had a steel cylinder that protected the blade. This cyclinder, when kept on could cause internal damage to it's target when fired.

No one ever mentions the other attachments the knife had. Saw a guy selling a bunch at a Vegas gun show back in the early 90's. Had a grappling hook and stun baton heads. Could shoot those instead of the knife heads.

Back then you could buy the knife, but not the spring from one dealer. So he would sell you the knife for $100+ bucks (if I remember correctly) and his buddy would sell you the spring for like $3 bucks. It was up to you to break the law by combining the two.

Seperately they were legal.

They're more a curiosity than anything else. In most places they're more illegal than firearms (or at least more restricted) and less useful for their intended use.

Rent "The Punisher" if you want to see one in "action" (as though anything is realistic in this movie). Good knife movie actually, there's some Spydercos and an Emerson Karambit. The balisong was a cheapie though. :grumpy:

This is the NR - "Nozh Razvedchika" (ranger knife, scout knife...) with simall barrel in the handle able to silenghtly shot one 22 bullet. It is officially produced in Tula

Very similar to authentic russian ranger knife from WWII, probably, most widely used knife in real combat opertions.

Thanks, Vassili.

Forget the balistic knife, just get one of those small crossbows with good cutting heads on the bolts (what crossbow arrows are called).

That's what they carry in England since they took away all their firearms because they are not responsible enough to be trusted to use them in a lawful manner, but that's another topic!
