Hi all. I just picked up a 'used' (but appears to be unused), bantam 284. It opens up smooth and locks up super tight. However, when you push the lock bar to close the knife, it doesn't close. at least not without substantial pressure on the blade to overcome the lock. The lock bar feels a little mushy, but everything "looks" normal. My questions are; is this normal for this kind of knife? (I also have a 283 and 285 which operate 'normally'). Is it possible that it will 'break in' over time, or does it sound like there is a problem with this particular knife?

Thanks for any thoughts.

not really, but I have a couple like this. rest i own, aren't like that. think I got about just under a dozen of these bantam models. 2 are like you describe....

I haven't had that problem with my Bantams, but I do have a 110 that had a very stiff lock. Cleaning the pivot, oil, and fidgeting solved the problem for me. If that doesn't work for you, send it in to Buck. They will fix or replace it. Good luck!

ok, so it sounds like it's not uncommon from the bantams to be hard to unlock and close. weird. thanks
yeah. 2 I have have not broken in...but im not playing with them and doing anything besides use them once in awhile. I actually kinda like them due to the super strong lockup with no wiggle..........

I've put some balistol in it and worked it open and closed a bunch. I can't tell if it's getting looser or if I'm just getting used to how to open it. I'll keep at it.
