As much as I love my Tilley, it's hot. A local place has reasonably priced Barmah hats that are ventilated (canvas drover, or something). Anyone know about them?

My Tilley is NOT hot.......but then, I have the mesh top version. They have a newer one that has the entire crown with small ventilation holes.

I agree with you - my Tilley is hot too. Someone on here mentioned removing the foam sheet in the top to make it cooler. I haven't tried it yet. You might want to.

I wear the Zensaw skull cap and it does not breath very good. At times, I wear it under my hat too though, but still, even though it does a Hell of a job at absorbing the sweat and keeping it from dripping down my nose, it feels like I have a wet sponge-rag wrapped around my head.

It is advertised as being seamless like all their other products but it does have a huge spine weave going from ear to ear. I notified Zensaw about this anomaly, and the fact that it really doesn't seem to be as breathable whatsoever as their Navy Seal shirt (very good product and has antimicrobial wicking going on too ), they did not reply :thumbdn:

Just rambling.

I have one of those Barmah canvas drovers which I have used in Aussie summers (+40C) and also in the tropics. They are excellent! They are much cooler than the Tilley hats because they allow air to flow through. It's particularly good when there is a slight breeze.

Get one. You won't regret it!

Barmah Cooler is a great hat. Cool ventilation, wide brim, tough as nails. I have had one for some years here in Arizona and it works!

I hiked with it today, very comfortable in the heat, but it leaks in severe thunderstorms. ;) The brim sheds water like nobodys business and stayed firm during the hourlong downpour.
