In some areas of the firearms community there are what is called BBQ pistols. Usually, they have exotic grips silverplating the full nine yards. They are meant to be shown off (BBQ reference) and not used. I'm curious if the same phenomenon exists for the many knives I see here priced at near and over a thousand dollars? If so I also guess I'm curious how to show it off. A pistol is easy hanging in a tooled leather holster, especially if its a hog leg. I'm not so sure with a knife. Are there other venues for show and tell. Respectfully submitted,

If you are at the BBQ, Dinner Party, or soiree.....

With your Sexy favorite knife carrying it in your mouth, bitting it with your teeth. Growling. People will notice..... You don't need to carry a sheath like some sort of wannabe.

I've heard the knife equivalent of a BBQ pistol referred to as a church knife a few times. If I wanted to show off a fixed blade, I'd tuck my shirt in. Folder, it's all about the pocket clip. There just aren't all that many social situations that call for a whip out for me.

Oh, a thousand won't get you near that territory in my opinion. Not with truly exotic materials and precious metals.

I refer to that style as a "fondling knife"
Something Nice, but most of it's use is admiration....

I don't do BBQs or church, so I would just call said knife my "precious knife" where I sits in the darks and hates anyone who would puts their filthy handes on it. <Gollum..gollum>

Honestly, anything I have worth showing off is going to be in a setting with like minded people, and they generally have a story around them rather than a garish look. Same goes with firearms. Mine are purchased and carried to save my bacon. Meant to be out of sight until needed. The whole BBQ gun thing always struck me as weird pageantry, tbh.

I do tend to carry a nicer yet functional knife either when I am going out to a fancy dinner or going to a social gathering. And evening out with the wife, an engraved SHF is just fine peeking out of my pocket. A gathering of mixed company if I am dragged to a BBQ, a nice year unassuming little lock back Boker with bone handle can open hotdog packages or trim a straw down for a kiddo without anyone clutching pearls. I mean, a $2500 engraved 1911 with real ivory grips could do the same, but it would make a helluva mess and the kid might have a slight lingering ringing of the ears...

There are, mostly themed as safe queens.
I personally don’t have a knife in the quality of safe queen.
I do have church knives or more classy looking. But this again goes to opinion.
This qualifies for me

At least in my experience, BBQ guns are still good guns and can include stuff that just has performance enhancements. Sure, they might be hard-chromed or whatever but that's still a functional upgrade. 😜 Below is the closest I have and yes, I've worn it at actual barbecues. Not super fancy but it shoots well.

As far as knives, fixed blades and particularly on the belt would be more in this category. Features like fancy handles or polished bolsters would help. Premium leather would get the nod over my favored kydex. That said, sheathes and holsters in exotic skins could go a long way here. I don't have anything like that.

Art?

Sure, it exists for any topic out there!

I appreciate it. It isn't a priority in my knife collector-user approach to my addiction. It is a niche, for sure.

3 of my many BBQ knives.

1) Right is my full custom liner lock “Conqueror” by renowned maker Michael J. Smith, featuring a Damascus blade with swedge and hand-filed Damascus backspacer by Mike Norris, beautiful Robert Eggerling fire-blued mosaic Damascus bolsters, and presentation-grade Mother-Of-Pearl scales;

2) Below is my @williamhenry_studio “Spatial” B12 folder, boasting a gorgeous frame and bolsters of solid heat-blued, hand-forged “Mind Melt” mosaic Damascus by Chad Nichols, with glorious 4.5 billion-year-old Gibeon meteorite scales that display its Widmanstatten pattern, and a blade of hand-forged “Boomerang” Damascus, also by Chad Nichols, with thumb stud and button lock set with Kashmir blue topaz stones;

3) Upper left is my Deviant Blades full custom liner lock by esteemed Belgian maker Filip de Leeuh, with a modified Persian blade in Stellite 6K dendritic cobalt (can’t rust) and solid Zircuti twist scales;

They are beautiful. But how do you show them off? BTW is the watch part of this impressive display? You should have identified it.
