I have a question, i have been trying to find a purpose of a bear claw or talon knife. any help of understanding what they are used for would be awesome

Those are designed for defense and to inflict injury. Used in martial arts and knife fighting. They are like a Karambit and designed for same reason.

Knives with forward-leaning tips excel at self-defence by enabling more effective slashing motions. They are also particularly well-suited for cutting rope, cord, and sheets of material, as well as being good for garden work, having specialized uses in wood carving, and causing tears of blood when attempting to hand sharpen them.

Karambits were designed as an agricultural knife, they were later adopted into martial arts, much like machetes and other agricultural tools of the region. Neither karambits nor hawkbills were actually originally designed for fighting.

The deep curve pulls the material being cut at an aggressive angle to the edge, slicing through tough materials like Comeuppance noted. Think of it as a single giant serration. Another way to think about it is drastically increasing the blade length while keeping the size reasonably small. knives such as the Spyderco Civilian and Matriarch take this a step further by having an aggressive curve and aggressive serrations. Look up cutting tests with these knives on Youtube.

I think their primary purpose is to sell knives to the young who have grand notions of using a knife for self defense via slashing. But there is a place for everything and I'm sure they work. There is such a variety of cutting tools available these days that it is a bit overwhelming.

Bam, time to close it down. Definitive answer right here.

I don't know why you guys make it complicated I mean just look at the knife I don't think they designed it as a box cutter what else would you think it is

As stated earlier, the knife was originally an agricultural design, not a fighter. Another bear claw knife was designed for cutting of rope and cord, also, not a fighter.

It's was originally designed for those purposes but what are they mostly used for today?

The karambit is still used as an agricultural knife in SE Asia, the Russ Kommer bearclaw is still marketed and sold as a knife for outdoor rescue/survival. So I dunno, what are they mostly used for today? I suspect a lot more of them get USED for those purposes than do for actual defense.
