Bear Grylls Bayley Knife - Any Copycats Yet?

Hi, with the high demand for the Bear Grylls Bayley Knife there must be some companies that have made a copycat version of the knife?

May be we can compile a list, so we can all buy the same knife at a lower price!

Thank you,

GP :)

The Bayley is a custom, handmade knife. High quality. He's not making the "Bear Grylls" version anymore. Anything else is going to be a crappy chinese made copy. As for Red Scorpoin Six, do a search and see how (dis)respected they are on BFC. Similar knives can be found, certainly. Just remember that, generally speaking, you get what you pay for.

Regarding Bayley himself and his knives, the Bear Grylls special was about 2X the price of his regular version, because it was "special". Even then, his regular knives are expensive compared to similar production knives. But that's true for pretty much every custom maker vs production manufacturer. "Value" is very subjective. Especially when you can buy a Mora for $15.

I just hope you're not promoting or endorsing copies/counterfeits/knock-offs. People 'round here don't take lightly to thievery, be it intellectual or otherwise.

I think the Fallkniven F1 or S1 would be equal or superior as well as several BRKT or ESEE offerings. I really like that Martin knife however.

If I take the Martin knife versus the Bayley knife and consider them equal lets do a quick cost/benefit analysis:

Martin BT "Bushcraft Tactical" $250

minus

Bayley S4 $650

= -$400

In other words, the Bayley S4 knife is $400 of hype.

You are welcome to critique me on this analysis. It is just a starting point to quantify.

Cordially,

GP

Bayley knives are not just hype. They are top quality custom knives from a maker that makes everything, including the bolts, himself. As a custom maker that only makes three knives every fortnight or so, the prices are very good. None of the others feel anything like the Bayleys, the Martin is the nicest, but is about as different as chalk and cheese, it just has a similar blade profile. It's like asking why a custom Lile First Blood is different to a United Cutlery version. Although Martin knives are much better than UC obviously, but you get my point.

There are fake Bayleys out there though, so be careful:-

This is incorrect.

How do you know?

No it isn't incorrect, ask him yourself. On average, he completes three knives every 10 working days. I've commissioned five custom knives off him with a competition chopper being made right now.

I know because I have held and owned both the S4s, Martin and RS6 knives. I even have the Swedish BearClaw which is the closest of any of them. There are no clones of teh Bayley out there.

Hello Pilot1,

So based on your post we can add those two choices to the list

ESEE 5

BRKT - Hunter

I thought you just wanted "copycats". My mistake. I would add the following to the list:

Fallkniven F1 and S1
BRKT Bravo-1
ESEE 4
Fiddleback Forge Production Recluse

Did I say I really liked that Martin? :)
