Anyone know the difference between these two from GEC?

I've never even heard of the term. But, you now have my attention.   :) ..

I've got a GEC with beaver pond bone. It looks like dirty water. :)
I like bone. This is fairly smooth but it's a secure grip.

Beaver Pond bone was 2 colors of smooth bone, light brown/gray and a dark brownish gray. Beaver Tail is not bone. It's jigged wood of a couple of different kinds, Bubinga and Wenge, maybe more, I'm not sure. Beaver Pond had a normal shield with a special etch and Beaver Tail has a Beaver as a shield and a special etch.

There's Mexican Bocote on the Beaver Tail lockback as well.

Pictures please!! Big beautiful pictures! Old Bones, and dirty water!!
Can't wait to see them!!

Beaver Tail was the original single spey blade scout / pioneer models that GEC came out with in natural bone. Then, when they had some "dirty water" colored bone they called it Beaver Pond. The Beaver Tail on these original runs was a play on the shape of the knife itself; with the only difference being the color of the smooth bone.

More recently they have re-used the etching / name on the jigged wood ( wenge and bubinga ) of various patterns. More a play on the look of wood that has been cut by a beaver than any blade shape.

Thank you Mike, I recently ordered a "beaver tail" from an online retailer and what came in the tube was a "beaver pond" which I already have. I compared the two and they looked the same, so I questioned my sanity. Apparently I was sent the wrong knife in the right tube! Here's hoping the next one is the right one!

I have a good little beaver collection going, though I can't find any of the 2007 Beaver Tail/Pond #73s any more. . . :grumpy:

Those are great lookin knives. I really like the Beaver shield, but it being inverted really messes with me.

thans mike for the great pics & trying to clear up the confusion. as always gec fans have a little struggle to interpret model designations.

Thanks for the pics, swapper!!
I agree, the Beaver is strange looking, upside down! Especially with it being one of our national animals up here.
Maybe the knives were meant for Australians!!:D

WTF on the upside down beaver shield? I wonder if there was a meeting or two at GEC to decide to shield it like that?

The peachseed jigged wood furtaker trapper is a real looker. If they did peachseed like that in a tan or brown beaver bone with a right side up beaver, I'd have to get one. :D

I have the original model, the first of Mike's pictures. It's what got me interested in GEC. The off white colour is very nice indeed, the fit very good and it has a strong spring, much like a Beaver's tail hitting the water, thud! I seem to recall that they had these in Primitive Bone as well, alegedly century old exhumed bone...I may be wrong though.
