Sold my original one. It was a black version.
I missed it so much i ordered a replacement. Just received my new bronze version. I like the color a lot more than i thought i would. Got some green tkc scales to go with it. Now i am wishing they made a full size handle version! With about a 7 inch blade! I know some people are missing out due to the smaller handle size and i think this design would be just as good scaled up. It could be called the bk 81.

I haven’t fully fallen in love with the 18, but thats mostly due to the fact that I like the 16 better. A larger version might help, but until I had one in my hands and actually put it to work, the best I can say is “maybe.”

When I saw the BK-18, it was like the angels sang ! I absolutely love the 18. The harpoon style blade just flat out works for me. I own 6 harpoon style blades & love every one of them. When choking up on them for skinning & game processing it gives me the perfect spot for my fore finger, to control the tip.

I have the desert colored BK-18. I plan on getting a black one too. I carry it scout style, handle forward, strong side, under my shirt. It can be deployed wicked fast. I also have a Tops Alaskan Harpoon, 2 Gerber Metolius, one in D2. And 2 Camillus harpoon blades.

Every knife person has specific styles that speaks to them. The ones that speak to me are BK&T line & the Harpoon style. But I also love the BK-2, BK-4, BK-7, BK-9, BK-10, etc, etc, etc..

I like the size of that blade, the handle doesn't fit me well.
I made it work for years until I started using other makers knives.
What I'd really like to see is a bk-16 blade on an esee HM handle.
An 18 blade on an hm handle might be weird.

The handle design of the Beckers seems to be either a love it or hate opinion with people in one camp or the other. I’ve only handled one RAT-3 but didnt like the handle! Hence, I dont see many people liking both Beckers and ESEE/RATs…So said, I’d like to handle an HM handle as it seems to be more along the lines of my old TOPS Pasayten handle that I liked so much.

YMMV!

That’s true. Handles are so personal. Pretty much goes for any product really, the part that we touch, or interact with is the part that really endears us to the product, or not. I like the “same but different” concept of the ‘Tweener vs full-size handles. Nice to see some continuity within the model lineup, based on the general tasks the knives were designed to do.

I actually wouldn’t mind seeing an intermediate size/style, but then I suppose at that point you’d begin to lose that simplicity/continuity…

I hared the rat/rc3 handle because it was too flat. The hm is great.
Likewise, I really like the tweener handles once you add liners.

I know this is an old post, but an idea popped in my head when looking for a BK15 & BK18 comparison and finding this thread.

If you have a 15, could you lengthen the handle with custom scales to include the forefinger choil? This would give you a longer grip length while maintaining most of the other characteristics of the knife.

I had the 15, it was Supposed to be my favorite knife.
But as many, the tweener handles were too small.
Not that they were awful, but there are better knives out there.... :/

I Didn't like the choil, it felt like the wrong shape. I modded mine, and added liners to increase the handle thickness.... It helped Alot.
I'll see if I can dig up some pics?

I wish the new owner would show her off some.... ?

That's why I don't use my tweeners much. Handles too dang short.
Oddly enough, I am in the process of modding my 15. I wear an XL width glove, and the handles suit me fairly well. That being said, I moved my handles further up.

I removed the pinky section of the handle, and will be using the fore choil as my pointer finger resting spot on the handle.

I didn't like the choil getting hung up in fibrous media, so I did something about it.

I am currently trying to decide on handle materials, it is currently between micarta for a sheer work knife, or add some fancy pants wood handles... Either way, I will have to make a sheath for it too.

Was it Dex who shortened a BK-11 from both ends into total awesomeness?

When y'all get to the point of wanting to make major modifications to these things it's probably time to consider having something made.
