Hello y'all,

I'm going to buy one of these knives for edc and can't decide which one! I'm leaning towards the bk17. I'll be getting an azwelke sheath for it so I'm not concerned about the factory sheath. So which would you pick and why? Which will be better for SD? How fragile is the 17 tip? I'll be buying it tomorrow evening so input is needed!
Thanks for putting up with me guys (lol)
Chris.

I love the bk-17. I find the thinner tip to be more useful in my need for a stabby end and still has plenty of meat in the middle for heavier tasks. I have not had a problem with the tip, but I don't pry with this knife. As for the sheath, I like it . It is the only one that actually has straps long enough to fit around the handle. If by SD you mean self defense, I suppose the pointier end will slip through a bad guy easier. If you mean South Dakota, I don't know. I'm sure it's still just as pointy in the Dakotas as here in Colorado. In my small amount of experience with Beckers you can not go wrong with either, and given time you will have both. The bk-16 is on my list right after I buy the bk-3. I have to pace myself or the wife will catch on.

For sd I would def go for the 17 that pointy tip will be more intimidating than the 16 in my opinion...
But knife for selfdefense is last on the list.....
A stick is better because of reach and distance,
Running away is even better...Believe me, I've been working security at nightclubs and seen the most...
Running is ALWAYS better than any weapon, they are last resort only.
If you don't have trained in using them (and I mean trained for long time) weapons can harm you just as easy as the attacker....

I think you pretty much had your mind made up. I would also go with the BK-17. Like many, just get the BK-16 later on. I know you will.

Got my bk17! And its great! Fit and finish is spot on, and its the sharpest knife I've ever got! The coating feels like sand paper but since its for edc its not bad. I'm in love with it ka bar, Mr Becker, job well done!

Congrats on the new steel. Give it a few weeks then do an update.
