Belt Buckle Knives.....

I never saw the practicality of them.

I wear a belt to keep my pants up. If I had to undo my belt to get my knife, my pants would be falling down.

I also don't see the sense of them for self-defense. Not only for the reason I just mentioned (pants falling down) but I don't imagine it would be all that easy to undo ones belt buckle when being assaulted. And I doubt a bad guy is just going to stand around and wait while their intended target undoes their belt.

And of course, the mere possession of such items (belt buckle knives) is illegal in my state of California.

To me, they seem more novelty than practical. There are much better ways to carry knives in my opinion. And much more practical knives to be carried.

I agree. Unbuckling your belt in a fight gives all the wrong signals to your attacker. They might feel flattered by the offer, but chances are you're not their type (except to mug and/or beat up) and you're just making things extremely awkward for everyone involved.

Same purpose as push-daggers. They can certainly be effective with little training and hard to disarm, but they are the most weapony of the weapon knives, very illegal most places, and it just does not look good when found. But, ideally, you shouldn't be found with it, ha. If you're going to go with one of these, I say just go full Wumbo and get one of those belt buckles that fires a single cartridge 😂

These are a totally cool lil novelty though. I like daggers, the look has always been entrancing. I'd like one of those Cold Steel Urban Pal double edged push knives, not to carry, just for the collection.

Actually, I've heard this as a misguided attempt to capitalize on perceived homophobia in the gangbanger community - drop trow if you get robbed and lunge at the guy in the nude.

I wouldn't recommend it.

David Yellowhorse use to do a belt buckle old school gerber one that was kinda neat.

Belt buckle knives and /or dropping trow both seem like bad ideas for SD . :(

Might work as conversation starters . :p

Cops and security types generally take special offense at deeply hidden or disguised weaponry .

If you fellas took a look at the video: this design does allow the belt to continue to hold up your pants...

You're right, looks like a new design for an old idea (new to me anyway). But still illegal to possess in my state if the blade is 2.5" or longer. In fact, carrying/wearing one would be charged as two separate offenses, possession of a "belt buckle knife", and carrying a concealed dirk/dagger (which would be charged as a felony).

Everything K killgar said, except for me insert Canada (where I live that they are illegal) instead of California.

I have the Bowen made ones. Limited use, I will admit. However, also is a bottle opener which I have used :)

I also have an old Bowen made model I bought as a teenager in the early 1980s. I thought of it as a last ditch emergency weapon rather than a regular use knife. I can no longer wear it as the belt has shrunk drastically over the decades and no longer fits my waist 😉

bowens are a classic.
great hideaway ideas
are often exciting prospects.
very tempting even to put on.
only thing is that enforcers
and securitymen know about em
and that makes it impractical and foolhardy to carry/wear in public.
most belt knives show
tale tale signs
and are a dead giveaway
thus giving rise to suspicion.
on the otherhand
it is a worrying thought
to have such a cool thing
end up in the wrong hands
(err make around the waist.)
stict laws can be a deterrent
but it never stops
the determined
from wanting to own them.
