Not sure if this is the right venue for this question, but it does relate in some ways to tinkering. So I've been doing my sharpening and general knife maintenance at my desk, but it is a relatively nice handmade desk, and I'd like to make some effort to maintain the finish if possible. So, i'm looking for some kind of hard plastic work mat/pad that won't move around on me while I do my sharpening, etc. It doesn't need to be particularly attractive, I'll probably just throw on some stickers from my favorite makers to spice it up. Do any of you guys use anything like that, or have any suggestions? Thanks!

I use a cheap plastic kitchen chopping board backed with foam rubber.Saves scratching whatever it’s on.

I use cheap rubber table place mats from Big Lots, the $1 store. They are about 1/8 thick and do not slide around on my work bench. I have my buffer sitting on one, and it does not move around.
