Benchmade 755

Hype ?

A lot of folks quickly sold theirs for some reason. I love mine.

Solid , a handful of a knife , great steel , ti framelock , ergonomic for me anyways... My MPR is very solid and no problems with the lock at all.

I briefly owned one and returned it. Not my cup of tea. It's VERY thick and heavy for the size of the blade, to the point that I consider it simply an impractical design. I really like the looks of it but it strikes me as a form-over-function knife.

I have this knife. Good materials, workmanship... But not the most functional design, and does not fit the hand that well.

It's too fat for its size. The blade is too thick for cutting through thick materials. Also hate pointed thumbstuds. I suppose if you needed a folding prybar the knife would make a good choice.

A little history to add to the discussion. Shane Sibert has a great reputation as a maker of fixed blade knives. The Pocket Rocket was designed by him to be a folding knife with near fixed blade strength and function. The Mini Pocket Rocket is merely a more compact version of the Pocket Rocket with the same purpose; i.e. a fixed blade replacement. The Benchmade MPR 755 is darn close to the custom Mini Pocket Rocket in all respects with the addition of M390 premium steel.

If you have the need for a over-built compact folder like the Mini Pocket Rocket and don't want to wait until Sibert opens his waiting list and then pay a much higher price then the Benchmade MPR 755 is for you. In addition, it makes a perfect hand load for punching bag workouts:D.

It's one of the most "different" folders in my collection. Tough little thing, but it's really bulky. I even took the belt clip off of it in an attempt to thin it down a little and make it more carryable as an EDC. I don't think I would return mine or sell it, cause it is a nice knife - it's well-build, locks up solidly and is made with M390 steel - it's a good knife, but certainly not for everyone.

It also kinda surprised me how small it was, length wise.

Iv'e been thinking about getting the MPR for a long time, I just keep going back and forth, on the one hand it's a beautiful design, very unique, it has M390 steel (I don't have any of that yet), but it just doesn't seem like a knife I will enjoy using, I like knives that can slice, and I find myself carrying light slicers, the heavy stuff stays at home.

I think the 755 is a knife that really pushes the limits of its blade length. if you're in a <3" blade zone and want to follow the law, there's not much else that will offer what the 755 does. It's a cool looking knife too, imo.

I've got a 755 MPR and it's easily one of my favorite knives that I have, I carry it a lot. The steel seems to hold it's edge for long time, and a few swipes on the sharp maker brings the edge right back.

Had one, sold it instantly because the cutout at the back of the framelock is the thinnest I have ever seen. That knife is, apart from a slipjoint, the furthest away from a fixed blade that you can get.
I really loved the concept of an overbuilt, chunky little knife, but to built it with such a weak framelock (I didn't even dare a spinewhack) really did put me off. It's been quite a while since a knife disappointed me that much.

(On a side not, fit and finish and all that was good, so if you don't mind a flimsy lock, go get it.)
