I was just curious if anyone has both the original and mini version of the Benchmade 940 Osborne? If so, which do you prefer? I'm trying to save up for another knife purchase, and these are on my list, but I don't know which one would be better for me? I wouldn't want the knife to be too small or too big, so just curious as to people's thoughts who have had experience with both versions. Thanks!

The 940 is close to the perfect dimensions for a pocket knife in my opinion.
That was my first impression after reviewing the details about the 2 knives, but I just wanted to get someone's take on here before I commit to such a purchase. Thanks!

I do and I like both. The 940 isn’t so big that you’ll think it’s “big”. I can post some pic later this evening if that would help you.

I find myself carrying the bigger one more often but there are times I like to carry the little one.

I really appreciate your help! I think I'm going with the original, but I can certainly see why people would like both!

However, if it's not too much trouble, I would love to see a side-by-side size comparison with a quarter, dollar or some other common object pictured to give an idea relative to common objects. Regardless, appreciate your reply!

I have them both.

I gave in to the many positive reviews.

The QC on either is absolutely awful. Not worth the price then, definitely not worth the price now.

It's your money, spend it how you want.

Just be ready to do a lot of maintenance and tinkering. If you like doing that, either of these knives would be right for you.

Well, I hadn't thought about that... I appreciate your response! I've received Benchmade knives in the past that were significantly off-center. I'm not the best at tinkering, but an off-centered knife is something that I just hate to look at! So, I would have to do something about that. 😂

I have a 940, owned it over 13 years, maybe closer to 15. Fit and finish is flawless, the blade is thicker than I prefer, I like slicy knives that cut well, the 940 is a bit more wedge like.
But it carries amazingly well and the action is superb.
The tip is very stout for such a lightweight and slim knife. It’s an attractive design, the size works well, like a Sebenza, it’s on the upper end of full size, without feeling big, it feels and carries smaller than a spyderco military, endura, cold steel recon 1, benchmade 710, or a griptilian, if that helps at all.

I say go for the 940, it’s not too big at all.

I really appreciate your advice. I'm in the process of saving up for one. Sounds like the 940 will be the way to go if decide to buy one. Thanks again!

I have two 940s and two 945s and really like both models. All had great fit and finish. If you can only have one, go with the 940. I can't imagine you would find it too big. The 945 is nice too though. The Osborne is a joy to carry in either size. Slim, light but still robust. Here's the comparison you requested. That's a 5.56x45 round. It was in my coin jar so I threw it in too.

Small 31 Sebenza which is almost a perfect match size wise although the CR is heavier.

I have both and if I could only have one I would keep the large. its design is slim so it never feels too big but it fills my hand. the small feels just a little too small at times. all that said I tend toward the small knife normally so it's a little strange that I would choose the larger of the 2.

Tell me more about that cookie....🍪

In all seriousness, I have wondered about this comparison as well, and based off of the pictures, both look easily pockeatable! Thanks for the pics! 🙂

I have a 940-1. Slim in pocket.

I don’t have the mini but the 940 is to me a medium size knife and never thought large.
Packs a lot of blade in pretty compact package.

Above pics say it all. PM2 looks like a beast in comparison (I dig the PM2 and own a handful).

Tastes and preferences are a funny thing. I think my 940 is awesome but I carry my Bugout way more even though it was roughly half the price.

I have both. As a general use pocket knife the 940 is very comfortable and is perfect in size/weight for pocket carry . I found the 945 just doesn't feel as nice in my medium/large sized hand. However, if I was wearing a suit or summer shorts, I'd probably carry the 945, wishing I'd have carried the 940 for it's slightly longer blade length and handle.

I have a 940-1501 and a 945BK-1. Both have black & blue G10 handles, very nicely lightweight. Both came with perfect centering and great fit & finish. The 940 is actually a medium sized knife, perfect for medium to large hands. Personally I find the 945 a bit small. So, if you need to settle on one, I recommend the 940. Otherwise just do it the Bladeforums way and get both! 😁

That is really helpful - thank you so much! I really appreciate your taking the time to post these. Really nice knives as well!

Thanks for another comparison, really appreciate it!! It looks like the 940 is the best fit for me, but the mini version is not as small as I thought. Thanks again!
