Hey Benchmade, fantastic job on this knife! I’d wanted one of these since I first saw one and it seemed like when they first went out it was difficult to find one. Well I got the email from REC in Columbus that they had them and I’m home for a few days visiting my family so I went and grabbed one.

I’ve noticed over the years that knife companies have sort of lost the ‘traditional’ knife shape, coming out with all sorts of weird shapes and materials that are very nice but kind of take away from the ‘knife’ feel and feel more like a box cutter or something. Benchmade has done that with several but also had some great ones like the Crooked River and a lot of the Hunt line. I like my knives to be a knife, one of my favorites is a Griptilian I bought in 2007 or 2008 and it’s been back for new blades twice.

I was stoked to show up and get my hands on this thing. It’s a large knife, right at the size I like. I don’t know when knives are too small - they’ve got to fill my medium/large hands well as I have an old injury to the right paw that makes things awkward to hold sometimes. The handle on this is thin enough to disappear in my pocket but wide enough for great traction. The texture is similar to a Griptilian. It actually sort of reminds in a distant way of the 710, a well loved knife and one I regret selling before they were discontinued. It’s about that size and honestly more comfortable. It has a really nice blade shape, it’s thinner but not so thin as to lose durability, the point is super sharp and this thing came hair popping sharp. It feels really solid, the handle appears to have liners about halfway back and the back half is that waffled style they’re doing but appears to be thicker polymer and the insert back there keeps it very stiff. I expected it to feel like the bugout or bailout and was surprised for it to feel more like my auto stryker.

Here are some photos. Super nice job Benchmade! I hope you guys continue with knives like this one. Feels like a solid well made tool.

I think so too. They feel like the type of plastic polymer that they used on the Griptilian knives. They feel “tighter” if that makes sense.

Also something I didn’t think before about, the safety switch is placed very thoughtfully. It’s really easy to click it off and hit the button in one motion when you’re holding the knife. Also the Morse code at the hilt says FTE - for Claymore. Gimmicky maybe but fun for sure.

I've got one on order. Supposed to be delivered Saturday. Looking forward to it.

The back of the handle says "us mfg". Im hoping that US manufacture means the same thing as made in USA by the legal definition and its not a way to get by with less parts made here but assembled here. Am I just over thinking it? Benchmade Benchmade
