Benchmade clip screw size and type. Help!

I just got a modded Bencmade 800 AFCK from another forum member. The knife is beautiful, but the pocket clip is bent outward just slightly. I'd like to get it bent back to it's original shape resting up against the scale of the knife. I looked at the pocket clip screws and thought they were smaller than most.

A T-5 Torx is too small, and a T-6 Torx is too large. I tried an allen wrench about the same size, but the fit is still a bit loose and there's too much movement. I don't want to risk any damage to this knife.

Can anyone tell me exactly what type of screw and what size the 800 AFCK uses? Could it be a Bristol? Any help would be great.

If you don't get a quick answer here, you might want to phone Benchmade in the morning and ask them.

IIRC the 800 used smaller screws than subsequent models, but I'm not sure of the type.

Thanks, rifon2:thumbup:

That was pretty much the plan. Just wanted to find out tonight if possible. I was bored:D

It's gotta be either a T-5 or T-6 my bet is on the T-6. Likely a 4-40 or 6-32 screw.

Torx come in standard sizes there is no size between 2 numbers.

It should be T6.

I have not seen them all, but I have only seen Phillips before T6. I have never heard of Benchmade using odd sizes on the clip screws. They stay consistent on the large majority of their models at any one time. I think the key word here is MODDED.

The slabs are micarta and there's a stainless backspacer. Clip screws are original as far as I can tell, but a T-6 does not fit in there.

Ok, thanks for the replies all. After getting out a lens and looking really close, it looks like the clip screws are T-5 torx. They were just beginning to strip out though, which made them feel too large originally to be a size 5. After some very gentle work, I managed to get out the screws on either side of the clip. The center screw is stripped a bit too much, but with the other two out I was able to rotate the clip around and manipulate it, getting it gently bent back to where it needs to be. Outer screws replaced and tightened and we're all good to go:thumbup:

This blade won't see very much pocket time, since it's just too darned pretty, so for now I won't worry about getting the screws replaced.
