I am thinking about buying the new Benchmade 710-141 with Damasteel blade for a high end carry knife, However I dont have any experience with Damasteel. Is it any good for an EDC? What blade steel does it relate to? S30V? 154CM? Thank you for you input and advice.

I had a couple customs with Damasteel and i liked it. Basically it's RWL 34 which is similar to 154cm. I was actually interested in the same knife before i made some expensive purchases that tied funds up for a bit.

I have never been a fan of 154cm in Benchmade folders. However, Ernie Emerson employs it wildly in his knives.

So with that knowledge I am not so sure I want to spend that kind of money for a knife that essentially has 154CM steel. I am torn. I love that knife however for $500+ I want a great steel...

Damascus is made for looks mainly... It looks good. $500 good? I can see your dilemma.

Damasteel is made from 2 stainless powdered metals and forged together in small pieces. Hence it costs more.

Do not confuse RWL-34 with the ingot version.

That being said, it depends on Benchmades heat treat on it. It can be run at HRC of 62-64 if they did their heat treat with deep freezing.

I have had the same thoughts about the 710-141. My problem with BM's high price sitch aside , I still find myself wanting some of their knives. The 710-141 looks so nice. But for $510 I want a super steel too. M390 , S90V , S110V to name a few. It's entirely possible that I may cave a pick up a 710-141 eventually. But I'm fighting it.

Also , if the Damasteel blade is similar in performance to 154CM then wouldn't the D2 blade of the standard 710 be a better performer ?
