Picked up a Benchmade Nimravus from fellow member RC Wells, at a great price too.

WOW. Like, CRAZY wow! Never seen a production knife like it, ergonomics, geometry, length, width, fit and finish the entire package it is just a fantastic knife! Kydex sheath with the thumblock ROCKS too! Love this knife. It is of custom knife quality workmanship and design and I am very proud to carry it.

Great score :) I love mine, in fact I have 2 M2 Nimravi.
I'll be sending those to Phil Wilson for rehardening, given how good my M2 710 is after he rehardened it to 64HRC, I just gotta do it, for the sake of the knife ;)

Yeah, I have a NIB M2 that I've been contemplating fixing up.

Gator, If you get the time, can you e-mail me more about Phils position. Is it work, or just a favor for a friend. I've got S110V too I'd like done.

Nothing urgent, but if you get time I'm: mastiffone@hotmail.com

Thanks. BTW, if you get the chance can you give us an update on your M2 and S110V projects. Thank you much, Joe L.

I have a Nimravus I picked up when Benchmade first came out with the model, complete with the old style Kydex only sheath. The sheath is way different than the newer model, and I have modified it by removing the old style belt clip on the back, and fitting it with a different clip that works better on the 1/4" thick gunbelt I typically wear.

I do not carry a fixed blade too often, but when I do this is the one that gets the nod, every time.

Sam! I am disappointed! Nimravii in the thread and no pictures!

I have a slew of fixed blades and the Nimravus sits right up at the top for quality and overall "usefulness"! For a couple of years, I was hunting a Nim Cub, but I couldn;t find one where the sale terms met my standards. Now, BM has reintroduced the Cub in 154CM (albeit with Noryl scales) and I'm going to have to order one! Finding an older M2 Cub with the right terms seems unlikely.

Here are my Nimravii.....

You're right Sam, the Kydex sheath is great! But!! The nylon sheath, as nylons go, is topped by none!

Will do. It's work though. Just not always available, that is I have to wait till he's hardening next batch, basically he tells me when is a good time :)

Yeah, I've been procrastinating 710 review update with that data. To many new knives , both websites moved to new host and all that. But I keep notes and other data, so hopefully I'll manage soon.

Thanks Sam. I do not know whether they ever made a Nimravus in M2, but I suspect they probably did....maybe. However! The old Nimravus Cub you could get in M2....if you were lucky. The Cubs came in the nice, older style sheath like Ken44's picture shows (nice knife, Ken! I like the G10 in black...classy. Plus, it has the Elishewitz markings.Very cool. I had not seen one of those before).

Sam, as good as ATS34 is (or was), I believe the 154CM is better, and noticeably so. Like ATS34, it will take a smooth, very fine, razor edge and hold it well enough to please most anyone. The long black folder in the pic above is a 975S in ATS34. That folder was made in 1995, when the ATS34 coming out of Japan was still clean and strong, and even so, it isn't near as good a steel as BM's 154CM, in my opinion. No, you're good with the steel you have in your knife right now.

They did make an M2 Nimravus in both PE and CE. Mine is a CE, which makes it "140HSSR Nimravus High Speed". It's BT2 coated. I bought mine NOS about a year ago. Nice knife, but I'd have rather found a PE.

I picked up a M2 with early Kydex when that was about all you could get a few years back. Never regretted it. It became my first choice for a duty fixed blade in the field simply because I could insert it behind a mag pocket on the older combat vest and it would stay there. Half the problem of any fixed blade carry in the field is where to put it.

I prefer the old kydex a lot more now that I've tried Eagle sheaths and other bulky lash on styles. It approaches the simplicity and elegance of a custom without the tackycool bells and whistles that yell "mall ninja." I wish makers would make a better decision than they do - just because you can sell a macho style sheath doesn't make it a better one.

I like the older-school Kydex too, but as far as function and versatility goes, it's very tough to top the newer BM Kydex sheath (like the sand-colored one in my photo above, NOT the new Cub sheath).

Still, Noryl or not, I'm going to order one of the new Cubs. The Nimravus is just too knice of a nife to have only one size........... ((( :D )))
