TLDR version: How long has the current version of the Northfork been for sale? How likely is it that they will update it next year?

I've been eyeing the Benchmade North Fork for almost a year now. I like the knife (with the wood scales) and hope to get one as an edc replacing my constantly rusting Rat 2. Do you think 140$ is a reasonable price for this knife considering its still using S30V (I would prefer a steel like S35VN) and the butterfly tax? Should I hold out until shot show in the hope they will update the knife with a better steel or even a refresh of it's design, or am I just waiting for something that wont happen any time soon?

P.S. S30V is a good steel, but I just want something slightly better at a price of 140$

You can pick up barely used ones for 100$ without much issue. The hunt line doesn’t see a lot of the flashy updates and the northfork is not super popular so I wouldn’t hold your breath on an update. ThAt being said I love the northfork and I Carry one close to daily anymore it’s a great work knife for me and a perfect size. It’s not a slicer due to the thicker blade but it’s stout and the recurve helps with pull cuts really well. The heavier blade lends its self to great action it opens and closes with gusto.

They are for sale at a large online knife retailer out of Canada, maybe $25-30 USD off the normal price...

As for the Butterfly Tax... I’m not going to defend high prices but this seems to be the norm in the knife world once you climb up the quality ladder, I don’t think Benchmade sticks out but I could be wrong. $140 USD is going to get you an S30V (or VG-10) G10 knife from Spyderco too, the difference is that they have a lot more offerings along the price gradient. I think I’ve become numb to a lot of the prices but I’ve been happy with every Benchmade purchase but one...

I just got one for $119 new on amazon. The price took a steep drop and I pulled the trigger on one.
