Has anyone got one of these yet? I can only seem to find a few reviews for the skinner version but im really digging on the hunter version.. Main use will be bow/gun whitetail field dressing(no pelvis splitting) turkey hunting and maybe light camp duty.. Main concern is the .14" blade thickness.. My other main competition for the money is between the fallkniven f1 and esee 4 Please Help!

Any thicker and you wouldn't be happy with it. Nice steel , good shape . I don't know the details with the edge but you can sharpen it to your preference.Use a diamond sharpener. Get a deer !

yeah agreed, don't want too worry about rust seeing as I late season muzzle load and knives get wet and bloody then have to stay that way till I get somewhere to clean them

I've wanted an f1 for awhile now.. but I think im going to pull the trigger on the BM

I picked up the Hidden Canyon hunter, the Saddle Mountain Skinner, and the Saddle Mountain Hunter recently. I am already counting down the days for deer and elk season :)

I ended up getting the SM Hunter... and I feel the exact same.. im kind of giddy to field dress something now I missed out on turkeys.. will post pics tomorrow

I picked up a Hidden Canyon on the weekend. Fantastic small knife! I now have a pocket sized fixed blade. Really nice quality and great steel.

My first Benchmade!

She did a superb job field dressing my deer this morning :) Most important part for me on a gutting knife is an extremely sharp and small point.. I love drop point blades but this thing ran right next to my finger and opened him up like nothing. VERY good feel in my hand it was like the knife became part of me

I have the Hidden Canyon and the Saddle mountain skinner.
Both great blades with great ergos and edge geometry.

I know this post is a little old, but I'm interested in knowing whether you now feel there's an advantage in having BOTH the Saddle Mountain Skinner and the Hidden Canyon Hunter? If not, which one serves all your needs?

I currently have the SM Skinner and I'm toying with the idea of getting the HC Hunter, primarily for processing whitetails. Would it be overkill?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

White tails aren't a problem when it comes to skinning ! Pull the skin down a bit, cut membrains , pull, cut till you're done . Carefully sharpen the tip for that. I should have mentioned in my irst post that the handle is a little small for my big hand !

I'm more interested in opinions on the nuances of blade geometry between these two models. I've hunted whitetail for more than 40 years, and I butcher my own venison. Thanks for your comments.
