which one makes the better quality knives that will last longer? which company makes the better knives? I know both are very good and make high end knives, but when you consider the 2, which is better? thanks guys.

Benchmade offers a greater variety, frequently uses better materials and has an outstanding warranty. Cold Steel makes more budget friendly knives and tends to focus almost exclusively on a more 'tactical' aesthetic. There are some Cold Steel knives that I think are hard to beat for the price, but if price is no object, Benchmade wins hands down.

Benchmade, in my opinion.
Cold steel makes decent knives, but they usually use a soft steel called "AUS-8" or a crappy krupps stainless.
I know Benchmade typically makes really nice knives, and use a decent steel, "154CM".
But for more accuracy, list the top 4 knives you are considering, 2 from Cold Steel, and 2 from Benchmade, and I'll help you toward picking the better knife.
Although, out of the two, you can't go wrong with Benchmade.

Although both companies make both higher and lower-end models, I think that most people on this forum would consider benchmade to be a higher quality knife company in general with better designs, better steel and overall higher quality.

Almost forgot, it may not make any difference to you, but Benchmade does the vast majority of their manufacturing in the U.S. and Cold Steel does theirs in Taiwan.

If your talking about folders, benchmade has better ones, cold steels are awesom for the price, I don't understand their crazy stubbornness to use better steels. Fixed blades cold steel hands down. Neither are "high end"

benchmade all the way. cold steel seems to make knives for every price range, but i don't think they can compete with benchmade when it comes to quality or innovation. beside, the axis lock is the titty balls!!

Two different types of companies/niches, Cold Steel makes lower priced, tough, beaters. Benchmade makes higher priced, more variation in design, and uses higher quality materials, though they do make some tough knives like the 275 Adamas, but are higher priced in general. If you want something you can use at a construction site and baton with and not worry about if you lose or break get a CS, if you want something that you can EDC for more normal folder chores or you need something you can cut with for longer periods of time (lots of cardboard to cut, or wood to wittle) get a BM.

Cold Steel is in no way, shape, or form a high end knife company. They do make a few expensive knives, but they're still Taiwanese-made AUS-8 knives with so-so fit and finish and below average warranty.

I have had both makes. By far my first choice us Benchmade fit folders. Another factor is fit and finish quality. My experience has been with Benchmade the attention to detail has been better than my Cold Steel knives.
Let us know if you are trying to decide between models.

Benchmade. Last year or year before they dropped their "Red line" series of knives. Most of those were made overseas in Taiwan and elsewhere. They have, of course, kept the Black, Blue, and Gold class knives. All made in U.S. If any are made foreign, I'm unaware of it.

Benchmade uses to-of-the-line steels, handle material, and washers and spacers. And then there's the Axis lock, as someone alluded to already.

Aside from the fact that both makes knives, there is no comparison between these companies, in my opinion.

for a more reliable lock choose cold steel for a better design and overall nicer edc and better materials choose benchmade.
