bending 360 brass??

Not sure what you are asking, but if you want to know how to soften brass and anneal it before forging or bending.......

Heat it to a dull red color and let cool to black heat. Quench in room temp. water. It will be fully annealed.

Hey Stacy, should you harden that after?? Or will it still be tough enough for an ornate guard?

360 is a free machining brass containing lead. There are limits to how much it can be bent .It cannot be hardened !! There are few brasses that can be hardened by HT though most can be hardened by cold work. Free machining types like 360 are made to machine , nothing else !

Thanks mete, I was not sure what bladecarver was trying to do. He should use a different brass if he plans on doing much manipulation with it. As you said, 360 does not forge or bend readily ,but it grinds and mills easily.

what is the correct procedure for bending 360 free machining brass?

I use 360 brass for the guards on my bowie knives. I just make a mild steel jig in the shape of the bend that I want then clamp the brass and mild steel jig in the vise and bend with a hammer. I may add I do this without annealing or with applied heat.
