I am thinking of getting a knife for bushcraft and wood carving although i don't want to spend more than around 35 dollars if you have a better suggestion for a knife that is not listed please tell me. I don't know much about knives.

yeah - a simple mora companion - choose either carbon or stainless, both are great - and then make yourself a nice leather sheath ; )

(personally I love using sandpaper on the wood mora classic and making it an oval more than a cylinder handle)

the 1 is small, the 2 medium, and the 3 is a 6" carbon blade - excellent all around utility for about $15

this is not my pic - but I've done a similar mod on my #2 classic

if there aren't any moras available,
a mora-like cold steel would do fine... lol
also, there's a finn-made model called
the timberjack..

Mora Kansbol. A couple of years ago, I pulled the trigger on a Kansbol when it went on sale for $27. I don’t know if you can expect to find it that cheap, but $35 is a pretty common price for that knife.

A lot of Moras could work for you. The Companion, at around $20, would be a sound choice, but if cost is really a consideration, a 611 or 511 would serve you well for $10 or less.

A Buck 110 has been my constant companion for over 35 years. It did everything I ever asked of it.

The Mora is mentioned enough already :) , I'd recommend it as well.

Here's my 2ct on the why:
You mention you want to do woodcarving, that's where a scandi grind really excels.
The knives you mentioned in the poll are all full flat ground afaik, that make them a good allround knife, but the scandi grind on a Mora or any other bushcraft knives gives you more control and a better bite in the wood when carving. I don't know of any scandi folders that fit your budget, that why you get the fixed blade Mora's recommended. GREAT knives for little money.

If you really want a folding bushcraft knife you can look into the RealSteel Bushcraft folder, Enzo Birk, Spyderco Wolfspyder, Tops mini Scandi etc. but double or triple your budget.

I as mentioned for a budget bushcraft would recommended a Mora over any knife on your list ... and over any folder as most you listed are folders.

Ontario's RAT-1 in D2 is what I picked from the limited choices presented.

The Mora Carbon blade would be a better choice as I prefer a fixed blade for bushcraft.

Also, handle comfort should be considered; a folder had inherent challenges in this are compare to a fixed blade.

Of the choices listed, I voted Rat 2. Get the D2 steel if you can afford it.

As others have said above, get a Mora.

Actually, for $35, I'd get a Mora 5.11 for $8 and either a Kabar Dozier 3" in Aus 8 for $20 or a Cold Steel Pro Lite Sport for $22. You should be able to get a decent folder + fixed for $35 shipped (maybe a dollar or two over with shipping).

PS. I picked the CS due to Demkos tri-ad lock, it is

PSS. I don't whittle, so I don't know what is a good blade shape for it.

From your list, I’ve carried both the 110 or 112 and I’m pretty sure they would work for you, even though they are more of a hunter’s design. Be careful with the 110 tip, it is on the thin side. I’m not personally a fan of liner locks, so that rules out most of the others for me.

In general though, the Mora has been suggested many times and for good reason. For an inexpensive yet durable and effective tool they are really hard to beat. The Kansbol would be my choice. If it must be a folder, the Cold Steel Finn Wolf would be a good candidate for a strong, bush-crafty knife, albeit at the high end of your price range

BTW, welcome to BF!
