Time for some new cargo shorts, I seem go through them like crazy, either break the zipper, or wear holes in them. I usually just try to find them on sale somewhere, since I figure they aint gonna last long. I'm tempted to buy a pair of Tilley "Classic" shorts, $89, ouch, (with the doublebum layer) they have a lifetime warranty apparently, but I think it only applies to the Classic model, but they are a bit short, I like the longer cargo types.

Hi Gary007-

It requires an initial investment...rest assured that Filson will provide you with top-quality shorts (along with other clothing) that is easily worth the upfront payment. Here are their three durable models shown below:

Double Tin Shorts

Shelter Cloth Shorts

In terms of a garment that can withstand BRUTAL abuse, you can't go wrong with any Tin Cloth garments. You'll see there is actually a double-thickness of the heavy cotton material across the front of the thighs.

The other shorts made of Shelter Cloth and Cover Cloth are both lighter and will be somewhat cooler but not be quite as strong. Take your pick, any of them would be a great choice. These loops on these shorts can all handle heavy gunbelts that folks like us tend to purchase. I'm going to see if they possibly go on sale later this month.

Might I suggest the 5.11 Tactical Short...they are of the longer variety! http://www.tactical-edge.net/clothing.htm. Good place to buy from with a lower price than you mentioned above and they have free shipping! Click on the Contact Us>> link at the top of the page for phone number.

If you can live without the cargo pockets, try Carhartts. They have them at Sears for about $20-25.

I recommend exofficio clothing highly. There features are extremely well thought out and they are very rugged and light. They are not inexpensive but not quite as bad as Filson or Tilly. Visit www.exofficio.com for there products and also try sierratradingpost.com for exofficio and other name brand outdoor clothing and equipment.

I like Columbia shorts, very rugged and comfortable. I like Columbia jackets as well, good prices at sierratrading and cabelas when on clearance

Anyone know if the Dickies brand is USA made?

Probably not anymore. The last piece of clothing I bought 10 years ago from them wasn't even made in the USA.Some companies have offshore and USA made products. Some have things partially made offshore and some manufacturing done here and still can say "made in the USA".I was looking at BDU's and the major Military supplier Propper brand has US made materials and assembled in Honduras.I have researched alot of products from jackets to underwear to hunt down who makes what where. It is possible to buy 100% made in the USA if you don't mind a little searching on the internet.

Here ya go.Made in the USA,good prices, scroll down for the cargo shorts.

Thanks Tombstone, I just ordered a pair of the khaki cargo shorts. I`ll try to remember to do a followup once I wear them a few times.

Thanks, keep use updated.I would order a pair myself, but I have an additional problem of having a bigger waist size then most places will carry.

I scored a couple pair of the 5.11 Bluewater shorts @ $14.99 closeout somewhere earlier this spring. Wearing a pair of 5.11 pants right now- good stuff- won't go wrong.
