What is thought to be the BEST "combat/fighting" tomahawk or hatchet? I have both an ATC VTAC Tomahawk (the new one), and an ATC/Brend Fighting Hatchet, and I like 'em both, but they both seem to be alittle on the small side to make a totally excellent "fighter". The ATC Roger's Rangers Spike 'Hawk seems perfect, aside from the weight, and would be awesome with the same synthetic handle that the new ATC VTAC has.

I have the ATC Vietnam tomahawk, the Ranger Spike tomahawk, and the Next Generation Spike tomahawk, and of the three the NG handles the best for me. Moves quick and sure, and handles perfectly. All said, the NG is the one I would reach for if needed. (right after one of my .45 autos) ;)

I like my Lightfoot, slightly modified for a longer rear spike. I also am waiting for the Strider Combat, which is probably the nicest I've seen outside of more traditional forged heads.

You should check out www.haysknivesmontana.com and look at their Next Generation Spike hawk. I have one and it is RAZOR sharp and the "spike" while not traditional looking, will penetrate Kevlar like it was Silly Putty. Jim USMC

All the choices mentioned are excellent, but what about the Eagle Talon from RMJForge?

Mith.

I've been trying to get a Talon for 1.5 years. Even TADGEAR (Triple Aught Design) has given-up on Ryan Johnson. Guy at Tadgear told me he is supposedly their "supplier" and the last order they got from him was Feb. 2003 and they got THREE HAWKS!! He won't return their calls, nothing. I've tried to get one for me--former US Marine (told Ryan I understood the Active guys should get first dibs) then tried to order one for my cousin--former Marine and ACTIVE LE with Indy PD. Never ONCE have had so much as a "Shut-up," in terms of a reply. They look awsome but RMJFORGE is burning a LOT of bridges with everyone but active duty military! Jim USMC

Anyone have any experience with any tomahawks by Two 'Hawks? If not for ATC they'd be my second choice for a quality tomahawk. The only thing is active duty military are first on the waiting list (thats the way it should be), but I have a few years to go before I'm enlisted in the Marines (I'm 14).

Two Hawks has some nice tomahawks, but how are they for combat/work? So if you have one just feel free to respond.

I would throw in Laci Szabo's Manhattax in as an option.

Smalled than many mentioned. However, sometimes smaller is better.

I had one, just didn't fit my need. It is very well made and designed though.

His stuff is good and I have no doubt that it would perform as needed.

Take it from an old Parris Island Graduate, Grunt, and Desert Storm (Gulf War--take one) attendee--get yourself a Next Generation Spike hawk from the link in the above post. Or, put an order in with RMJ Forge for a Talon. If you can prove you're on some kind of early-enlistment deal, he might even have it ready for you by the time you're 17! Semper Fi future Devil Dawg! Well, I will agree with James Falor and Mithril, the Eagle Talon is quite impressive. It did go to Egypt with me right after 9.11, but I don't think I'll chance some confiscation-moron deciding it's more dangerous than a SAW, M16 or M9 if I/when I head back

I will say that the Talon is an excellent design...I've punched through some 55 gallon drums, destroyed any wood in my path and wreaked some havoc on some old drywall :D I've done just about as much as I could except throw it.

Now as much as everybody keeps drooling over the Ealge Talon, I will say that I think the ATC Lagana hawk is a better "combat tool". Yeah, it may be a little smaller, but it is lighter, and therefore is more controllable. The handle material is very tough, and I wouldn't worry about it not being a one-piece like the Talon...unless you take a saw to it or use it as a marshmellow roasting stick :D

Also, for the price of one Eagle Talon, I can buy two Lagana's, and not worry too much about it getting destroyed, stolen or lost when deployed. Also, the size of the Lagana makes it much easier to carry in/on the Ruck or even your first line gear...both are quite good, and I won't be getting rid of the Eagle Talon, but I won't deploy with it either...that'll be the ATC Lagana that gets the deployment orders.

Devildog- Thanks for the info. I'll start saving up my pennies for the Next Generation Ranger, I like the looks/specs of that one more than the Eagle Talon.

BTW, my older brother is a grunt with the 5th Marines, heading to Iraq next month. He isn't really a tomahawker, but he's hell with a Ka-Bar and an M16.
(Maybe he'll buy a Lagana VTAC with his next paycheck, just for a backup weapon.) Semper Fi to you and all the other Devildogs on this site.

You tell your brother to keep his head down over there and come home safe. There aren't enough of us as it is and, of course he knows this, Marines are not allowed to die--unless ordered!! Good luck out there in San Diego--my cousin went there for recruit training and he's a cop with the Indy PD now. As horrible as PI is, I've heard tales of a Mt. Motherf----- that sound pretty entertaining! Jim SEMPER FI TILL THE DAY I DIE!

Jim-

My brother knows he's coming home with his head still intact (cause if he don't theres no more deer huntin'). He gets out in 2 1/2 years, and he's gotta choose between reenlistment or getting out, going to college and becoming something in the field of law enforcement... Don't let Chesty down!
Thanks for the support and Semper Fi.
